Made his next 13 outings in relief, posting a 1.69 ERA (4 ER/21.1 IP) ... Entered July 0-7 as a starter before posting his first Sox win on July 25 vs. Toronto ... Did not allow an earned run in five relief appearances (4.2 IP) from Sept. 8-16.

1997

Began the season with Seattle's Triple-A affiliate, prior to being recalled by the Mariners on April 25...took the loss in his April 26 Major League debut at Toronto, allowing one run on four hits in 2.1 innings and striking out two...was optioned back to Tacoma on May 5 ... Was recalled on May 27 to make his first Major League start that night ... Picked up his first big league win by a 6-3 score on June 6 at Detroit...allowed three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings, walking one and punching out a pair ... Was 2-4 with a 6.96 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) for Seattle before being optioned back to Tacoma on July 21...10 days later, was traded to the Red Sox ... Was 4-0 with a 2.37 ERA in six games (five starts) with Triple-A Pawtucket before being recalled by the Red Sox on Sept. 1 ... Made his Boston debut on Sept. 1 in Montreal, allowing one run on one hit in 2.1 innings ... Went 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in relief appearances for the Sox to finish a combined 2-3 with a 7.89 ERA in 20 games (nine starts) for Seattle and Boston.

Split the season between Mariners' minor league affiliates Double-A Port City and Triple-A Tacoma ... After going 5-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 10 Double-A starts, was promoted to Triple-A on May 25 ... Started 16 of the 17 games he pitched in for Tacoma going 6-9 with a 4.54 ERA.

1995

After experiencing a twinge in his right elbow in Spring Training, opened the year in Extended Spring Training...debuted for the Mariners' Arizona Rookie League club on June 27 and joined Double-A Port City July 8 ... Earned his only win on Aug. 13 at Carolina, allowing one earned run over 6.0 innings ... Following the season, pitched for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League, going 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA.

1994

Went 7-10 with a 4.94 ERA in 26 starts for Double-A Jacksonville ... Tied for fourth in the Southern League in starts ... Fanned a season-high 10 on July 6 vs. Knoxville.

Went 12-9 with a 5.26 ERA in 27 games for Single-A Riverside ... Tied for third in the California League with 12 wins...ranked second with two shutouts ... Went 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA in five games for Sun Cities of the Arizona Fall League.

Went 7-3 with a 2.42 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) for short-season Single-A Bellingham ... Ranked among league leaders in complete games (tied for second with two), opponents average (fourth at .216), wins (tied for fifth with 7) and ERA (tied for fifth at 2.42) ...
