Nitkowski on a seven-hit shutout of Cleveland on May 22 (1.0 ip, 1 h), earning his 10th save...tied season-high three strikeouts, July 1 at Minnesota...on July 28, Todd was traded to Minnesota in exchange for pitcher Mark Redman...gave up just one earned run in his first 10 outings with the Twins (8.0 ip), Aug. 1-21...won his only decision with Minnesota, Aug. 3 vs. Kansas City...had just a 2.08 (13.0 ip, 3 er) during the month of August...posted both of his saves with the Twins in August (Aug. 18, Aug. 31)...as a Twin, he was 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA and two saves in 19.1 innings...stranded 16 of 29 (55%) inherited runners and first-batters-faced were 20-63 (.317) with nine strikeouts.

Saved a career-high 42 games on the year, establishing a new Tigers single-season club record...broke the 27-year old mark held by John Hiller (38 in 1973)...became the only Tiger ever to post three 30-plus save seasons...the 42 saves tied for first in the American League (Derek Lowe), earning Todd the first Rolaids Relief Man Award in Tigers history...was named to his first career All-Star team...for the year, he was 2-4 with a 3.52 ERA...finished 60 games, fourth best in the AL...earned the first of 42 saves on Opening Day, April 3 at Oakland...then recorded the first save in Comerica Park history, April 11 vs. Seattle...after a slow April (7.88 ERA), Jones rebounded by saving all 10 opportunities in May with a 2.00 ERA in being named Tigers Pitcher of the Month...did not allow an earned run in nine straight appearances (7.0 ip), May 2-21...earned a save in six consecutive appearances, May 12-24...allowed just two runs all month, both in the same game, May 24 vs. Cleveland...those pair of runs would be the only ones allowed by Jones from May 2 to July 29, a span of 29.2 innings and 31 games...was also named Tigers Pitcher of the Month in June, posting a 0.00 ERA with seven saves in 10 games...gave up just five hits in 10.1 ip in June...posted a season-high four strikeouts, July 8 at Milwaukee...played in the All-Star game July 11 at Atlanta...pitched one inning in the Mid-Summer classic, retiring all three batters...recorded nine saves in 12 appearances in July en route to being named pitcher of the month for the third consecutive month...was solid again in August, earning seven saves while giving up just three earned runs in 13.1 innings (2.03 ERA)...on August 23, Todd earned his 125th save as a Tiger, tying him with John Hiller for second place on the club's all-time saves list...passed Hiller on Sept. 1 at Texas...was 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in September but still saved six games...posted his 39th save of the year on Sept. 17 vs. Boston, setting the new team record...earned his 42nd and final save, Sept. 29 vs. Minnesota.

Saved 88% of his opportunities (28-of-32), eighth in the AL ... was 10th in the Rolaids relief standings with 70 points ... first batters hit just .117 (7-for-60) against Todd, the best mark in the AL and third in the majors ... his 4.97 ERA was the highest of his career ... began the season with seven straight scoreless outings (7.0 ip) ... posted a season-high 3 strikeouts twice, both against the Red Sox (July 17 vs. Boston & Sept. 13 at Boston).
1997
In his first season as a Tiger, Todd set a then-career high with 31 saves, which tied him for fourth in the AL ... 10 of his saves came in one-run games ... his .861 save percentage was fifth best in the league ... earned his first American League save on April 5 at Chicago ... was named Rolaids Reliever of the Month for July (1-0, 1.29 ERA, 10 saves) ... named Tigers Pitcher of the Month for September, where he was 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA (12.2 ip, 4 er) and 7 saves in 11 appearances.
1996
Jones became the Astros closer out of spring training and went on to save a team-high 17 games, despite missing the later portion of the season on the disabled list ... was 6-1 with 16 saves at the All-Star break but would only throw 15.1 innings in the second half of the season ... went on the DL with right shoulder tendinitis on July 19 and was activated on Aug. 12 ... then was on the DL again from Aug. 18-Sept. 12 with the same ailment ... pitched for one game with Tucson on a rehab assignment ... was traded to the Tigers following the season on Dec. 10.
1995
Set career highs in wins (6), games (68), innings (99.2) and strikeouts (96) ... his innings and strikeouts ranked second among NL relievers ... inherited the closer role when John Hudek was injured on June 23 ... had a season high 5 strikeouts that day vs. Chicago ... returned to setup duty after Houston acquired Mike Henneman on Aug. 10 ... had a 14.2 scoreless innings streak from Aug. 30 to Sept. 26.
