Jeffrey Bryan Hammonds...married wife, Keisha, on Jan. 26, 2002...the couple have a daughter (Tierra) and son (Brycen)...played collegiate baseball at Stanford, where he majored in history...hit .353 with 27 home runs, 151 RBI and 102 stolen bases in 174 games for the Cardinal spanning 3 seasons (1990-92)...hit .355 in 1990 to become first freshman in school history to earn first-team All-America honors...was also named Freshman of Year by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball...set school and Pac-10 record with 37-game hitting streak and was named to College World Series All-Tournament squad...graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood (NJ) High in 1989...was named 1st-team All- State in baseball 3 consecutive years...led all New Jersey prepsters with .545 batting average during sophomore season...also was football standout, getting recruited as defensive back by Notre Dame, Michigan, UCLA, Miami (FL) and Virginia...however, gave up gridiron after junior year to concentrate on baseball...was named Gatorade New Jersey State Baseball Player of Year as senior...was drafted by TOR in 9th round of '89 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign.

2004

Entered spring training in hopes of becoming a starting OF for SF...however, broken right thumb, sustained on March 9 against MIL, derailed hopes...was placed on the 15-Day DL on April 4 (retroactive to earliest date possible)...was expected to miss 6 weeks, but was activated by SF on April 11...made 2004 debut that afternoon at SD (0-for-1 off bench)...homered twice in 3 games, May 8-12...last home run came May 12 vs. PHI off Randy Wolf...hit just .211 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI in 40 games (22 starts) for SF before being released on June 3...started games at all 3 OF spots for Felipe Alou...did not sign with another club.

2003

Began season with Milwaukee, but by season's end had become one of SF's most productive bench players...hit .277 (26-for-94) with 20 runs, 10 2Bs, 3 HRs and 10 RBI in 36 games with Giants...made 23 starts for SF, logging 11 opening assignments in CF, 9 in LF and 3 in RF...perhaps most important stint came during 7-game roadtrip through Colorado and Arizona Aug. 26-31...made 6 starts while Barry Bonds was on Bereavement List, going 6-for-21 (.286) with 6 runs, 2 2Bs, HR, 3 RBI and 4 walks...efforts helped SF win 5 of 7 contests and solidify wire-to-wire run to NL West title...in last 15 starts overall, hit robust .356 (21-for-59) with 5 walks, 9 2Bs and 2 HRs...included was 4-hit effort Sept. 13 vs. Brewers, matching career high for 9th time by going 4-for-5 against former club...1st homer in Giants uniform was memorable one, game-winning 2-run clout in 7th inning (off Brian Boehringer) that snapped 5-5 tie Aug. 7 vs. Pittsburgh...played in just 10 games for Milwaukee before being placed on Disabled List April 16 with high right ankle sprain...was subsquently released June 4 and signed minor league deal with SF July 1...batted .333 (11-for-36) with 2 HRs in 11 games for triple-A Fresno before having contract purchased prior to July 30 contest in Chicago...hit .400 (2-for-5) in NLDS vs. Florida...started Game 4 in RF, going 2-for-4...in fact, had single in top of 9th during which J.T. Snow was thrown out at plate to end series.

2002

Appeared in career-high 128 games for Milwaukee, setting career standards in doubles (26), triples (5) and walks (52)...was just 3rd time in career he had played in 120-or-more contests...opened season strongly, hitting at .320 clip in April and .292 in May...posted his 1st of 2 9-game hitting streaks May 27-June 5...collected his 700th career hit May 31 at San Diego, singling off Padres' Jason Boyd...belted his 100th career homer July 5 at Cincinnati, connecting off Elmer Dessens...closed out 1st half of season hitting .282 with 7 HRs and 34 RBI, however batted just .216 with 2 HRs and 7 RBI after All-Star Break...homered in consecutive games July 20 and 21 at Colorado, then went without long ball in his final 138 at-bats (154 plate appearances) to end campaign...did not drive in run in final 46 at-bats (49 plate appearances)...did string together 2nd 9-game hitting streak, beginning with 1st game of doubleheader Sept. 1 and lasting through Sept. 14.

2001

Was Brewers' Opening Day centerfielder, however played in just 49 games before suffering season-ending injury...was placed on 15-day Disabled List June 9 (retroactive to June 7) with strained right shoulder...underwent season-ending surgery July 27 to repair torn labrum in right shoulder, procedure performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles...transferred to 60-day DL Aug. 1...before injury, hit .247 with 9 HRs and 41 RBI...clubbed pair of HRs May 30 at St. Louis.

2000

Enjoyed best year in big leagues, earning NL All-Star status during only campaign with Colorado...finished 4th in NL with .335 batting avg. and set career highs with 106 RBI, .395 on-base pct. and .529 slugging mark...20 HRs and 24 2Bs both were 2nd-best totals of career...played all 3 outfield positions, logging .991 fielding pct. with career-high 8 assists...clutch performer ranked 2nd in senior circuit with .372 batting avg. from 7th inning on...connected for 2nd career grand slam May 2 vs. Montreal (off Jeremy Powell)...set career standard with 7-RBI game May 12 vs. San Francisco...posted career-long 18-game hitting streak May 29-June 21, duirng which he hit .426 (29-for-68) with 5 2Bs, 5 HRs and 22 RBI...batted .450 in June to earn Rockies' Player of Month Award...shared same honor in July after hitting at .347 clip with 20 RBI...named NL co-Player of Week for July 24-30 after going 14-for-24 (.583) with pair of HRs and 8 RBI.

1999

In 1st full NL season, batted .279 with 17 HRs and 41 RBI in 123 games for Cincinnati...was even better in 2nd half, hitting .331 with 10 HRs after All-Star Break...in fact, over last 30 games, as Reds were battling for post season berth, hit .400 with 7 clouts and 15 RBI...made 54 starts, including 37 in RF, 14 in CF and 3 in LF...compiled 10-game hitting streak Aug. 26-Sept. 5, going 16-for-29 (.552) with 5 HRs and 10 RBI...broke out of 2-for-21 skid by belting 3 homers, driving in 5 runs, scoring 5 runs and collecting 14 total bases May 19 at Colorado...3 HRs and 5 RBI tied Cincy franchise marks...left yard twice June 5 at Kansas City and Sept. 5 at Philadelphia...helped Reds establish NL record for club homers in game (9) and ML single-game mark for most players with at least 1 clout (8) with roundtripper Sept. 4 at Philadelphia...clout off Paul Byrd in that contest was only 52nd homer hit into upper deck at Veterans Stadium...hammered 1st career pinch-hit HR Sept. 14 against Cubs.

1998

Combined to hit .280 with 6 HRs and 39 RBI in 89 games for Reds and Orioles...began campaign in Baltimore, clubbing 1st career grand slam May 23 at Oakland (off Jimmy Haynes)...spent over month on Disabled List (June 3-July 9) with back spasms...was dealt to Cincinnati in exchange for OF Willie Green Aug. 10...made NL debut Aug. 11 vs. Pittsburgh, starting in CF and going 2-for-4...overall with Cincinnati, hit .302 with 11 RBI in 26 games, including 26 starts in CF...appeared in 25 games for Reds before soreness in left wrist kept him out of lineup...made his last start Sept. 10 and didn't play again until his final appearance of season, as pinch runner Sept. 22...next day, underwent surgery to repair hamate fracture and torn triangular fibro cartilage in his left wrist.

1997

Established career high with 21 homers in helping Baltimore to AL East title...impressive power numbers came despite strained left achilles tendon that limited playing time down stretch...collected trio of multi-HR games, going deep wtice May 13 vs. Texas, June 25 at Milwaukee and July 5 at Detroit...played all 3 outfield positions during July 3 contest at Tiger Stadium...won 1st game of split-doubleheader vs. Cleveland Sept. 15 with 2-run clout off Eric Plunk...O's estimated that homer at 460 feet, 2nd-longest in 6-year history of Camden Yards...achilles injury limited him to just 13 post season at-bats.

1996

Opened season as Baltimore's starting LF...was hitting .286 on April 27, but went into 23-for-117 (.197) slump over next 34 games and was optioned to triple-A Rochester June 17...hit .272 over 34 minor league contests and was recalled by Orioles July 31...strained left knee while trying to make sliding catch Aug. 15 at Oakland and was placed on Disabled List next day...was activated Sept. 22, but did not appear in game following return...played winter ball in Puerto Rico during off-season.

1995

Suffered through injury-plagued campaign...made fast return from off-season knee surgery, earning Opening Day start in RF...however, played in only 7 games through May 9 due to soreness in surgically repaired right knee and was optioned to double-A Bowie May 14...was recalled by Orioles May 26 and hit safely in 10 of his 1st 12 games upon return...was placed on Disabled List July 18 with strained right trapezius muscle and was not activated until Sept. 3...appeared in 6 games after return, all off bench, and went 1-for-3 with 2B.

1994

In only 2nd professional season, had 3rd-best batting avg. (.296) on Orioles, behind only Rafael Palmeiro (.319) and Cal Ripken (.315)...hit at impressive .317 clip (33-for-104) when behind in count, 2nd-best mark in AL and 4th-best in majors...as 9th batter in lineup, hit .303 (27-for-89), 4th-best in majors for 9th-place hitter...cut his face and sustained mild concussion in home plate collision with Mariners' Bill Haselman April 30 in Seattle...while sitting out due to effects of concussion, strained right knee in batting practice and was placed on DL May 10 (retroactive to May 4)...was batting .326 with 4 HRs and 14 RBI in 23 games prior to disablement...was activated June 16 and batted .280 with 4 HRs and 17 RBI over his final 45 contests...hammered "walk-off" HR July 9 vs. Oakland, 9th-inning clout off Bob Welch to give O's 8-7 win...had then career-high 10-game hitting streak July 24-Aug. 2, going 15-for-41 (.366)...had successful reconstructive surgery of anterior cruciate ligament in right knee Oct. 11, procedure performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, AL...injury originally occured during high school football playing days.

1993

Batted .305 for 2nd-highest avg. among AL rookies with 100-or-more at-bats, behind only Minnesota's Chip Hale (.333)...made 27 starts with O's...despite getting 32 hits and 11 multi-hit games with Baltimore, retained ML rookie status for 1994 campaign...became 1st player from 1992 Amateur Draft to reach majors...began season at Bowie, but was promoted to Rochester May 3 and was recalled by Orioles June 25...arrived at Camden Yards in 1st inning that night and made ML debut as pinch-hitter in 6th inning vs. Yankees...had RBI-single off Jim Abbott in 1st big league plate appearance, then added another single and intentional walk that game as Orioles rallied from 6-0 deficit to win 7-6 in 10 innings...made 1st ML start June 26 and drilled 2B and 2-run HR to propel Baltimore to 12-10, come-from-behind victory...became 1st O's rookie to get 2 hits in each of 1st 3 ML games since Rich Coggins had multi-hit contests in his 1st 4 starts in 1972...in fact, had at least 1 hit in each of his 1st 6 big league games (9-for-23, .391) to tie Chito Martinez' 1991 club record for lonest skein at start of ML career...batted .337 (29-for-86) with 19 RBI and 11 multi-hit games in his 1st month at ML level...was hitting .352 on July 30, then was struck with muscle spasms in neck...further testing revealed injury as herniated disk in neck, and was placed on Disabled List Aug. 8...was activated Sept. 1, but played in only 2 games before returning to DL Sept. 28...was declared physically fit Nov. 18 without needing surgery.

1992

Was selected by Baltimore in 1st round of June draft (4th pick overall)...played in 1 game at Camden Yards during pre-Olympic U.S. Tour July 11, and immediately following game (during that night's O's-Twins game), signed with club...was introduced to crowd during contest...did not play for Baltimore organization that summer due to commitment to U.S. Olympic Team.
