following his release by the Reds, most of them when the Mets were behind or
comfortably ahead. His work constituted improvement over his work with the Reds. His
ERA with them had been 7.36 in 20 appearances
and 18 1/3 innings. He produced a 5.75 ERA in 20 1/3 innings with the
Mets. For the year, he allowed 20 walks and 59 hits -- nine of them home runs --
