Signed by Andy Hancock of Texas...was a chemical engineering major at Georgia Tech University, where he pitched three seasons and was named First Team All-American by The Sporting News in 1986 after setting then-single-season school records with 11 wins and 122 strikeouts...was also named to the secondteam all-Atlantic Coast Conference in 1986...after walking on to the Yellow Jackets' baseball team as a freshman, left Tech with a then-school-record 28 victories and 249 strikeouts, though both marks were later surpassed by current big league pitcher Doug Creek...guided the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back ACC Championships in 1985-86...was inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 1991...graduated from Wilkinson County High School in Irwinton, GA in 1983...played baseball, football and tennis...participated in Little League and American Legion baseball programs...was the Dodgers' nomination for the annual Roberto Clemente "Man of the Year" award in 1999...one month after signing with the Dodgers, he donated $1 million to the Los Angeles chapter of the Reviving Baseball in Innercities program (R.B.I.) to establish the Kevin Brown RBI Academy of Excellence...the academy helps inner-city youth with baseball skills instructions, SAT preparatory classes, time management seminars, human development courses, retreats, college tours and college scholarships.

2003
The right-hander finished the year with a 2.39 ERA, second best in the National League and his personal best since posting a 2.38 mark with San Diego in 1998...posted 14 wins, his highest total since winning 18 games during his first season in Los Angeles in 1999...allowed two earned runs or less in 23 of his 32 starts and one earned run or less 18 times...the Dodgers scored 17 runs in his nine losses...was named as one of 12 finalists for Pitcher of the Year in both leagues by MLB.com...won nine consecutive decisions from 4/29- 6/17, becoming the first Dodger starter to accomplish that feat since Ramon Martinez, who won 10 straight from 8/13/95-5/31/96...made 32 starts for the Dodgers, five less than his combined total from 2001 and 2002...named to NL All-Star Team, but did not play due to a strained rectus abdominus muscle which landed him on the DL from 7/4- 20...came into Spring Training coming off an injury-plagued 2002 season and demonstrated immediately that he was healthy again, going 2-1 with a 1.03 ERA in seven spring games...pitched 6.0-plus shutout innings in his first start of the season, a 5-0 win at Arizona on 4/2...struck out a season-high 11 batters in 7.0 innings on 4/24 at Cincinnati, but received a no-decision in the Dodgers' 3-2, 11-inning loss...it was his 25th career start with 10 or more strikeouts... won his next nine decisions and the Dodgers won his 10 starts from 4/29-6/17...during the streak, he was 9-0 with a 1.27 ERA (10 ER/71.0 IP), allowing 50 hits and fanning 59...held opponents to one earned run or less in nine of the 10 games...was named the NL Pitcher of the Month for May, as he went 5-0 with a 1.02 ERA in six starts...allowed one earned run or less in all six starts during May...was also NL Pitcher-of-the-Month in August of 1996 while with Florida...missed his last two starts before the All-Star break, as he went on the disabled list on 7/4 with a strained abductor muscle...lost 3-1 vs. Mark Prior and the Chicago Cubs on 8/10, as he allowed a two-run and a solo homer to Sammy Sosa...the homers were the first allowed by Brown since 5/20 vs. Colorado, a span of 12 homerless starts...pitched on three days rest as he defeated the Marlins 6-4 on 8/15 at Florida...allowed three runs on five hits in 7.0 IP.

Struggled through an injury-plagued season, twice visiting the disabled list and ending up with a 3-4 record and 4.81 ERA in 17 games (10 starts)... was 2-4 with a 4.56 ERA (25 ER/49.1 IP) in his 10 starts and was 1-0 with a 5.65 ERA (9 ER/14.1 IP) in seven relief appearances... he is 44-23 with a 2.97 ERA (218 ER/661.2 IP) in 106 career appearances (98 starts) as a Dodger... pitched in the fewest games and had his fewest innings pitched (63.2 IP) since 1988 with Texas when he was called up in September... the Dodgers scored a total of five runs in his four losses this season and have scored a total of 17 runs in his 14 losses over the past three seasons... was 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA at Dodger Stadium this season, but is 22-10 with a 2.28 ERA in 54 career games pitched at Dodger Stadium... was the Dodgers' Opening Day starter on April 2 vs. San Francisco, his seventh career Opening Day assignment, and suffered a 9-2 loss... allowed a season-high seven runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings... won his next start (400th career start) on April 7 vs. Colorado, pitching 7.0 shutout innings in the Dodgers' 6-4 win... was also 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and hit his second career home run... injured in his next start, April 13 at San Diego, pitching just 1.1 scoreless innings before leaving with sore elbow... he was diagnosed with having a release of scar tissue (from his Sept. 27, 2001 surgery to repair the flexor muscle) and subsequent swelling... was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 14... reinstated on April 30 and started vs. Cincinnati on that day... Mark Bellhorn's solo home run in the fourth and two-out, two-run bloop single in the fifth accounted for both runs he allowed in 5.0 innings of work in the 3-1 loss... allowed three runs in 7.0 innings in his start on May 5 vs. Chicago, but the Dodgers were shut out 3-0... shutout the Marlins on three hits in 7.0 innings, while fanning a season-high 10 batters, in a 3-1 win at Florida on May 11... it was his 24th career start with 10 or more strikeouts... had no decision on May 16 vs. Montreal, allowing the Expos three runs in 6.0 innings in the Dodgers' 4-3 comeback win... experienced posterior elbow pain in his start on May 26 at Arizona and left after 0.2 innings, having allowed four runs, but had no decision in the Dodgers' subsequent 10-9, 10-inning loss... placed on the DL for the second time on May 27 with posterior medial sprain of his right elbow... began experiencing back pain and had surgery to repair a protruding disk on June 11... the surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins at the University of Southern California Medical Center... transferred to the 60-day DL on July 21... reinstated from the DL on Aug. 15 and pitched the next day in relief at New York... pitched 2.0 innings and allowed a run and was the winning pitcher in the Dodgers' 3-2 victory... it was Brown's fourth career relief outing... had no decision in his next outing, allowing three runs in 3.0 innings of relief on Aug. 20 vs. Florida... pitched a career-high 4.0 innings of relief and allowed two runs, while striking out nine Braves, in the Dodgers' 7-5 loss vs. Atlanta on Aug. 25... pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief over three appearances from Sept. 2-7, before making his last start of the season... started and lost 5-2 at San Francisco on Sept. 10, allowing five runs on six hits in 5.0 innings... received an epidural injection on Sept. 12 to treat residual soreness in the area of his lower back... was shut down for the rest of the season after the injection.
2001
Made 20 appearances and 19 starts, going 10-4 with a 2.65 ERA... allowed one earned run or less in 12 of 19 starts... was 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA (10 ER/43.2 IP) in his last eight starts of the season... underwent successful surgery by Dr. Frank Jobe to repair a torn flexor muscle on his right elbow on Sept. 27... his last start of the season came on Sept. 22 vs. Arizona... he went 5.0 innings and gave up just one run on four hits, but did not figure in the decision in the club's 11 inning, 6-5 victory... had no decision in the Dodgers' 6-4 loss vs. San Diego on Sept. 17 despite striking out a season-high 11 batters and allowing one run in 6.0 innings before leaving for a pinch-hitter... pitched 5.0 shutout innings in his first start since returning from the disabled list on Aug. 28 vs. Colorado, but had no decision in the Dodgers' 4-3 loss... surrendered two hits, while walking two and striking out two... defeated the Pirates 4-2 at Pittsburgh on July 15, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four in 5.0 innings... the strikeout of Jack Wilson in the fourth inning was the 2,000th of his career... left the game after five innings and flew back to Los Angeles that night... examined by Dr. Frank Jobe the next day and was diagnosed with a severe sprain of the flexor muscle in his right elbow... on July 6 vs. Seattle, he tossed 5.1 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits in a 13-0 losing effort... it was Brown's fourth loss of the season (Dodgers were shut out in three of those games and scored just two runs in the other loss)... on June 24 he was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game and made just his third career relief appearance (his previous relief outings were July 4, 1998 vs Colorado and May 10, 1994 vs California)... had a 19.0 scoreless inning streak from May 2 (seventh inning) through May 18 (second inning)... batters hit .098 (6-for-61)... had a five-game winning streak from April 14-May 7... posted a 1.35 ERA (5 ER/33.1 IP) in those games... it was his longest winning streak since winning seven-straight July 20-Sept. 4, 1999... his career best winning streak is 11 games from May 26-Aug. 10, 1998 while with San Diego... defeated the Reds 7-3 in Cincinnati on May 2... allowed three runs in 7.0 innings and hit a solo homer in the second inning for his first career home run in 384 career at-bats... placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 31 (retroactive to March 24) with a right Achilles tendon strain... reinstated from the disabled list on April 10... also on the disabled list from June 4 (retro to May 30) to June 23 with cervical radiculopothy... on the disabled list from July 18 (retroactive to July 16) to Aug. 27 with a severe sprain of the flexor muscle of his right elbow... has fanned 10 or more batters in a game 23 times in his career, including May 7 vs. Florida and Sept. 17 vs. San Diego... had a career-high 13 strikeouts in a 2-1 victory vs. S.D. on Sept. 23, 2000... has just five losses in his last 25 outings (12-5) dating back to Aug. 18, 2000... teamed up in 2001 with Dodger sponsor Farmer John to raise over $25,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation... Farmer John donated $100 in Brown's name for every strikeout he recorded in 2001 ($10,400) and Kevin and his wife Candace added an extra $15,000... was 4-2 with a 2.34 ERA (16 ER/61.2 IP) in 10 starts at home this season... had the lowest home ERA in the league in 2000 (7-1, 1.79 ERA) and his 2.00 home ERA (141 ER/635.1 IP) the previous five seasons is the lowest among any Major League pitcher with at least 250.0 innings pitched...
2000
Led the National League with a 2.58 ERA...posted a 13-6 record with five complete games and one shutout in 33 starts...held the opposition to three earned runs or less in 28 of his 33 starts and one run or less in 14 of his starts...struck out a career high 13 batters in a 2-1 complete game victory vs. San Diego on September 23 for his 71st career complete game...pitched three straight complete games June 5-15, posting 2-1 record and a 1.29 ERA (4 ER/26.0 IP) in those games...it was the most consecutive complete games by a Dodger pitcher since Carlos Perez had four from September 2-20, 1998... the Dodgers were shut out in three of his six losses and scored a total of 10 runs in the six games...pitched his 17th career shutout on June 15 vs. Arizona, defeating the Diamondbacks 4-0 on four hits while striking out 10...fanned 10 or more batters four times in 2000 and has done so 21 times in his career...went 7-1 with a 1.79 ERA (23 ER/115.2 IP) in 16 starts at Dodger Stadium and is now 16-5 with a 1.93 ERA (53 ER/246.2 IP) in 33 career starts at Dodger Stadium...was 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA in May and 3-1 with a 2.06 ERA in June...had a 1.98 ERA (9 ER/41.0 IP) in September/October...was selected to his fifth All-Star game and pitched one inning, allowing one run in the game won by the A.L., 6-3 on July 11 in Atlanta...he became just the fifth player in history to represent four different teams in an All-Star Game (Rangers, 1992, Marlins, 1996-97 and Padres, 1998)...joins Roberto Alomar, Walker Cooper, Goose Gossage and Lee Smith as the only players to represent four different teams in the Mid-Summer Classic (no one has ever worn five different uniforms in the history of the game) ...tied for second in the National League with 14 sacrifice bunts...was on the disabled list from April 9-25 with a fractured right pinky finger suffered while attempting to bunt in the game on April 8 at New York.

Went 18-9 with a 3.00 ERA in 35 starts in his first season with Los Angeles...the 35 starts tied a career high for the 3rd time in his career (1992 and '98)...led the Dodgers in most pitching categories, including victories, innings (252.1) and strikeouts (221)...among N.L. pitchers, ranked 4th in ERA, tied for 4th in victories, tied for first in starts, 2nd in innings and strikeouts, 3rd in opponents batting average (.222) and 4th in complete games (5)...also ranked 7th in fewest walks per 9 innings (2.1) and 8th in strikeouts per 9 innings (7.9)...tied for 6th in N.L. Cy Young Award voting...his 18 wins were the most by a Dodger starter since Ramon Martinez went 20-6 in 1990...also posted most victories by a Dodger starting pitcher acquired via free agency...other Dodger free-agent pitchers in their first year in Los Angeles include Hideo Nomo (13-6 in 1995), Tom Candiotti (11-15 in 1992), Kevin Gross (10-11 in 1991) and Dave Goltz (7-11 in 1980)...lost final start of the season on September 29 at San Francisco, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings...the 5-1 defeat was the first loss in his career at Candlestick/3Com Park...entered the game with a 0.63 ERA (3 ER/43.0 IP), which was the lowest by the opposing pitcher in the 40-year history of the ballpark...loss to Giants also snapped 7-game road winning streak...became Dodgers' 4th Opening Day pitcher in the 1990s, joining Orel Hershiser (1990, 1993-94), Tim Belcher (1991) and Ramon Martinez (1992, 1995-98)...received no-decision in Dodger debut on April 5 vs. Arizona...allowed 5 earned runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings vs. Arizona, including home runs by Bernard Gilkey and Jay Bell...it was the only time he allowed 10 or more hits in a home start...was 9-3 with a 1.95 ERA in 16 starts at Dodger Stadium...won first 5 decisions at home...7-game winning streak from July 20-September 4 tied Chan Ho Park for team lead...held opponents to 2 or fewer earned runs in 20 of his last 29 starts and one run in 13 of 29 starts...was 11-4 with a 2.44 ERA (30 ER/110.2 IP) following a Dodger loss...retired 17 consecutive batters between 2nd and 8th innings en route to 3-2 victory over Phillies on June 20...pitched only shutout of season September 4 at Chicago...allowed 2 hits, one walk and struck out 8 against Cubs...7 hit batsmen were the lowest since he hit 6 batters in strike-shortened 1994 season...committed only one balk...struck out regular season career-high 12 batters in 3-2 loss at Cincinnati May 25...went 9-3 with 2.41 ERA in 16 starts after All-Star break...since 1996, has made 14,290 pitches en route to 69-35 record and 2.50 ERA (272 ER/979.2 IP)...
