Full name: Joseph Thomas Borowski...Married, wife's name is Tatum...Two sons, Blaze (11/8/00) and Ty (5/23/05)...Resides in Scottsdale, AZ and originally hails from Bayonne, NJ...Graduated from Marist High School (NJ) in 1989...Was an All-America selection in both baseball and football and was an All-State selection in baseball and football as junior and senior.
2007
Had an outstanding season in his first campaign as Indians closer, compiling a career-high 45 saves on his way to leading the American League in saves... Became just the 2nd Indian to ever lead the AL outright in saves, joining Jose Mesa (46 saves) in 1995...His 45 saves were tied for the 2nd highest single-season total in club history with Bob Wickman (2005)... Saved 45 of an ALhigh 53 chances on the year (84.9%)... Recorded career-best 45th save on Sept. 30 at KC... Was 1319 in 1-run saves, 15 for 17 in 2-run saves, 15 for 15 in 3-run saves and 2 for 2 in 4-run saves... 46 of his 69 outings were scoreless... Take away outings of April 19 (0.2IP, 6ER) @NVY and May 13 @OAK (0.2IP, 4ER) and his season ERA was 3.78 (64.1IP, 27ER)... Converted a season-high 13 straight save opps from May 20 to July 3... Borowski posted a record of 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA and a career-best 36 saves in 2006 (69.2IP, 63H, 29ER, 33BB, 64K) as the closer for the Florida Marlins...Borowski finished 3rd in the National League with 36 saves in 43 chances (behind Hoffman and Wagner) and 2nd in the NL with 60 games finished....Limited Major League hitters to a .235 (63-268) average and .377 slugging % against for the season, including a mark of .167 (20- 120) against left-handed hitters and .233 (27-116) average with runners on base...From June 4 thru the end of August he posted an ERA of 2.52 (35.2IP, 28H, 10ER)...Was nominated for NL Comeback Player of the Year...Led Marlins pitchers with 72 games... Was named the Most Improved Player by the South Florida chapter of the BBWAA after the season...His 36 saves established a new career high, eclipsing his mark of 33 saves with the Cubs in 2003... Recorded his first save of season on April 14 vs. Washington, which was his first save since May 31, 2004, vs. Houston...Converted 16 of 18 save opportunities in first-half of season, and 20 of 25 save chances after the All-Star break... Split season between Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Devil Rays... went a combined 1-5 with 4.47 ERA in 43 games... began season with Cubs and was designated for assignment on June 29 when they activated pitcher Kerry Wood... signed by the Devil Rays on July 11... Pitched in 32 of Tampa's 73 games after joining the club at the All-Star Break... held opponents scoreless in his first 20 outings as a Devil Ray, producing a career-high and Club-record 21.0-inning scoreless streak (snapped Club record set by Rolando Arrojo with 18 in 1998)... streak ended on August 30 at Boston after allowing a pair of runs in the eighth inning... including a scoreless 0.2 innings with the Cubs, he owned the second-longest scoreless stretch among Major League relievers for the season (21.2 innings), behind Mariano Rivera's 23.0 innings... it was the longest by a Major League pitcher who was traded during the season since a streak of 26.0 innings by Fred Norman for Cincinnati in 1973... Was not scored upon at Tropicana Field until the season's final game on October 2 vs. Baltimore, when he allowed three runs in one frame... Despite just a half season in the American League, he ranked 10th among AL relievers with 19 holds... He appeared in 11 games for the Cubs early in the season and went 0-0 with 6.55 ERA... Began the year on the DL with a fractured bone in his right forearm that he suffered in Spring Training... activated from DL on May 20.

Struggled with shoulder injury the better part of the year, going on the disabled list on June 6 with a right shoulder strain... went 2-4 with nine saves and an 8.02 ERA in 22 appearances with Chicago... converted nine of 11 save opportunities... picked up his first save of the season on Opening Day in Cincinnati (April 5)... converted eight straight chances from April 5 to May 23... recorded his 22nd straight save on May 16 at San Diego, establishing a new franchise mark... was unscored upon in 13 of his 22 appearances... had a season-high 3.0-inning stint April 2 at New York, striking out 4 batters.
2003
Entered the season with two Major League saves, but became the Cubs' first closer to reach the 30-save level since Rod Beck saved 51 games in 1998... in 68 relief appearances, he went 2-2 with 33 saves and a 2.63 ERA... went 33x37 in his save chances... 14 of his saves occurred in games he entered with a one-run lead... ranked sixth among National League relievers in saves and fifth in games finished (59)... struck out 66 batters in 68.1 innings, while issuing only 19 walks.
2002
Went 4-4 with his first two Major League saves, 12 holds and a 2.73 ERA in a team-high 73 appearances for the Cubs... finished third among National League relievers in innings pitched with 95.2, trailing only Florida's Vladimir Nunez (97.2) and Houston's Octavio Dotel (97.1)... fanned 97 batters while issuing 29 walks... limited opponents to a .239 average... made the Opening Day roster after attending camp as a non-roster invitee... pitched at least 2.0 innings in 24 outings... earned his first Major League save on April 14 at Pittsburgh, recording the final out in the bottom of the seventh inning with the tying run on deck... the game was called due to rain in the eighth... hurled 4.0 shutout innings in a 16-inning win on July 12 vs. Marlins, the longest relief appearance of his career.
2001
Spent his first campaign in the Cubs' organization, pitching in one Major League contest and in 39 games (12 starts) at Iowa... was on the Major League roster from August 11-15... made his first Major League start on August 11 vs. San Francisco and took the loss in a 9-4 decision... worked 1.2 innings and allowed six hits, six earned runs and three walks while striking out one batter... it was his first big league appearance since September 22, 1998, vs. Cleveland (while pitching for the Yankees)... went 8-7 with one save and a 2.62 ERA with Iowa... struck out 131 batters in 110.0 innings and held Pacific Coast League batters to a .216 average... in his starts, he was 4-3 with a complete-game shutout and a 2.48 ERA... in his 27 relief appearances, he went 4-4 with one save and a 2.85 ERA... tossed the first complete game and shutout of his career on July 5 in a 2-0 victory vs. Colorado Springs.
2000
Pitched for the Newark Bears in the Atlantic League (Independent) and Monterrey in the Mexican League, seeing action in a combined 40 games... in 28 relief appearances for Newark, he went 6-3 with a 5.50 ERA... pitched in 12 games for Monterrey, including five starts, and went 4-2 with one save and a 3.19 ERA... struck out 44 batters in 42.1 innings... went to Spring Training with Cincinnati as a non-roster invitee, but was released in late March.
1999
Spent the year as a reliever with Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Louisville, going 6-2 with four saves... his 58 appearances tied for the team lead and tied for seventh among all Triple-A pitchers.
1998
