Contract purchased from Triple-A Albuquerque on April 7...batted .258 (8x31) with a triple and five RBI in 24 games before suffering a stress fracture on his left foot which caused him to miss the majority of the season... placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 3 and transferred to the 60- day DL on July 28...played LF, RF and 1B in 2000.
1999
Batted .194 with a home run and six RBI in 22 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, spending much of the season on the disabled list...began the season with Toronto, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 4 with a right knee injury...missed 37 games before being reinstated on June 16...went back on the disabled list July 9 due to a strained left oblique muscle and eventually missed the remainder of the season, being transferred to the 60-day DL July 20.

Split the season with Cleveland and Detroit...opened the season with the Indians and batted .200 with three doubles, a triple and three RBI in 20 games...on the disabled list from May 5-June 3 with a torn plantar fascia in his right foot...traded to Detroit on June 24 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tim Worrell and minor league outfielder Dave Roberts...hit career home run number 100 on July 9 off Woody Williams of the Blue Jays...it was his only home run of the season...

Appeared in a career-high 156 games between the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles and batted .283 with 25 doubles, 26 home runs and 90 RBI...began the season with a bang, homering in three of the first four games for the Athletics...collected his 500th career hit on May 1 at Cleveland off Mike Jackson...his first 12 homers of the season were solo shots before slugging a three-run home run June 8 at Toronto...traded to the Orioles on June 27 for pitchers Jimmy Haynes and Mark Seaver...finished his Oakland career with a .293 batting average, equalling the highest in Abs history among players with 1,000 or more at bats...matched a career high with five RBI on July 17 vs. Boston...21 of his 26 homer runs were solo blasts...

Set career highs in most offensive categories, highlighted by his 36 home runs and 106 RBI...was second on the Abs to Mark McGwire in home runs and RBI for the second consecutive season...led the team with career highs in at bats, hits and total bases and also had career highs in runs and doubles...his 312 total bases were the sixth most in Oakland history...entered the records books with three-homer games on May 22 at New York and Aug. 12 vs. Minnesota, becoming the 10th player (11 times) to have two three-homer games in one season and the first Athletic...collected his first career five-RBI game in the Aug. 12 game vs. Minnesota...batted .359 in June, which included a 12-game hitting streak from June 10-21 in which he batted .377 (20-for-53) with three home runs and nine RBI...hit his second career grand slam on June 27 at California...hit eight home runs in a six-game span from Aug. 12-16, including homering in four-straight games from Aug. 14-16 (DH)...

Led the Abs in games played, runs and hits...began the season primarily as a designated hitter, but started 45 of the Abs last 57 games in right field...hit his first career multi-homer game on May 14 at Minnesota...hit first career grand slam on June 6 at New York off Mariano Rivera...
