Moises Rojas Alou graduated from C.E.E. (Santo Domingo, DR) in 1984...Did not play organized baseball until attending Canada (Redwood City, Calif.) College...In 1986, he led the Coast Conference with a .447 batting average and nine home runs.
2007

Fought through numerous nagging injuries to earn All-Star honors, while his .321 batting avg. was highest by player in first full season with Giants since Barry Bonds hit .336 in 1993...also ranked 2nd on club with 19 HRs and 63 RBI, while pacing Giants with 41 multiple-hit games...with enough plate appearances to qualify, would have ranked 4th in NL for batting avg., while his .405 mark (53-for-131) in day games would have led majors and his .372 (35-for-94) tally against left-handed pitching would have been good for 3rd in senior circuit...was limited to 123 games, landing on Disabled List April 7-22 with right calf strain and Aug. 3-18 with right hamstring strain...also suffered through left groin strain that limited his action in early Sept....was torrid during 11-game hitting streak Sept. 10-27 as SF battled to stay in NL West race, going 19-for-42 (.452) with 6 2Bs, 2 3Bs, HR and 9 RBI...also hit robust .361 (13-for-36) with 6 extra-base hits and 8 RBI in 9 contests batting 5th in lineup behind Barry Bonds...Giants were 6-3 in those contests...belted game-winning, 3-run HR with 2 outs in 9th Sept. 20 at Washington, following walk to Bonds with blast to left (off Livan Hernandez) that erased 2-1 deficit in 4-3 SF victory...posted 3-for-5 effort with 2 3Bs and 2 RBI in 6-2 victory Sept. 25 at Colorado...marked 1st 2-triple game of career, while he became 1st Giant to accomplish since Mark Lewis did so July 4, 1997 vs. Rockies...after slumping in April, hit at .331 clip (131-for-396) with 18 HRs, 61 RBI and .404 on-base pct. over his final 113 games...with April 5 start in opener vs. LA, became 4th member of Alou clan to play for Giants, and 3rd to start (Felipe and Jesus)...belted 1st HR as Giant April 24 vs. Brewers (solo shot off Gary Glover), marking 1st HR by an Alou in Giant uniform since Jesus went deep Aug. 19, 1967...logged 27th career multi-HR game (1st as Giant) May 25 vs. LA.
2004
Earned All-Star honors in his final season with Cubs...hit .293 with 78 extra-base hits and 106 RBI, while establishing career marks in 2Bs (36) and HRs (39)...had not surpassed 30-homer mark since 2000 or 100-RBI mark since 2001...was his 5th career 100-RBI campaign...finished 7th in N.L. in HRs and extra-base hits, while ranking 10th in runs (106) and 4th in total bases (335)...homered in 3 consecutive games 3 different times...surpassed 1,000-RBI milestone April 21 at Pittsburgh, hitting 2-run single off Ryan Vogelsong...drove in career-high 6 runs Aug. 24 vs. Milwaukee as he recorded his 26th career multi-homer game.

Logged .275 mark with 15 HRs and 61 RBI over 132 games in 1st season with Chicago...began Cubs career by hitting just .184 over his 1st 39 contests...was late scratch as Cubs' Opening Day left field starter due to strained right calf, which eventually led to trip to Disabled List...won his 4th career NL Player of Week Award for week ending Sept. 8.

Mathews...was placed on NL's Suspended List Aug. 23-27 as result of bench-clearing altercation Aug. 12 vs. Houston...was final regular-season batter in Atlanta- Fulton County Stadium history ...his uncle, Matty, was 1st hitter in stadium's inaugural season (1966).

Was limited to 93 games due to injuries, but still hit 14 HRs and drove in 58 runs...suffered torn right biceps muscle June 6 at Los Angeles making an off-balance throw...damaged left rotator cuff while diving for ball July 13 vs. Philadelphia...stayed in lineup until mid-August before going on Disabled List Aug. 19-Sept. 5...played in just 1 more game (Sept. 9) before returning to Disabled List for rest of season...underwent arthroscopic surgery Sept. 11 to repair labrum tear in right rotator cuff...underwent same surgery on left rotator cuff Oct. 3.

Saw his 1st big league action during season in which he wore 5 uniforms...began year with Pittsburgh's double-A affiliate Harrisburg...after hitting .295 in 36 games, was promoted to triple-A Buffalo May 24...Pirates purchased contract from Buffalo July 26...made his ML debut that night as defensive replacement against Philadelphia...less than 24 hours later, his cousin, Mel Rojas, was called up by Montreal...collected 1st hit July 28, single off Phillies' Bruce Ruffin...was optioned to Buffalo July 29...was traded to Montreal Aug. 16 and sent to triple-A Indianapolis...returned to majors, this time with Montreal, Sept. 1.

Saw minor league action with single-A Salem and double-A Harrisburg in Pirates chain, hitting 17 HRs in 140 games...earned Carolina League All-Star honors at Salem, where he batted .302 with 14 HRs and 53 RBI in 86 games.

Earned South Atlantic League All-Star honors at single-A Augusta, batting .313 with 35 extra-base hits and 62 RBI...was 2nd in league in batting, 3rd in on-base (.399) and 5th in slugging (.464).
