Was acquired from Arizona on Aug. 8 in a trade for Minor League pitcher Aric Leclair...spent the season with Arizona's Tucson AAA affiliate, before joining Kansas City.
Went 3-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 54.2 IP for Tucson.
Went 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA in 10 games for Kansas City (8 starts)...allowed 28 ER in 47.2 IP for KC.

One (1) of the Mariners most consistent starters in his first injury-free Major League season...established career-highs in virtually every pitching category...his 3.40 home ERA (90.0 IP, 34 ER) was tied for 4th-best in the AL...started season in bullpen, going 0-0, 6.61 in 8 relief appearances (16.1 IP, 12 ER) before joining the rotation full-time on May 9...last relief outing was May 2 in Minnesota (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 GIDP)...started May 9 in Texas and got first win, 13-3...was knocked out of start on May 25 in Baltimore after getting hit in head by a broken bat (Harold Baines) in the fourth inning...doubled in his first ML at-bat, in 5-2 win, June 10, in San Francisco; finished 1x3 at the plate...left start on June 15 in Minnesota after four innings with leg cramps...was undefeated in June, going 3-0, 2.03 in 5 starts (31.0 IP, 7 ER)...2.03 ERA in June was lowest in the AL & 2nd-lowest in the Majors for the month (Randy Johnson, 2.00)...had four-game win streak over six starts, June 4-July 1, with a 2.13 ERA (38.0 IP, 9 ER)...lost 5-1 on July 6 in Anaheim to snap four-game win streak...was 1x2 at the plate on July 16 in Arizona (ND), finishing season 2x5 at the plate...tied career-high with 8 innings pitched in 11-1 win Aug. 6 at New York...took no-hitter into the 8th inning, before allowing a one-out single (Rico Brogna) in 5-0 win at Boston on Sept. 3; was relieved by Jose Paniagua with two outs as the two combined on Seattle's ninth one-hitter & first-ever combined one-hitter...was 1-2, 4.25 in September...was ejected from start on Sept. 23 vs. Oakland by 3B umpire Jeff Nelson in the 6th inning; got ND in Seattle's 8-2 loss...got no-decisions in three straight starts, Sept. 13-23, before dropping final outing of the season, 3-9 In Anaheim on Sept. 29...was 4-4, 3.40 in 17 games, 13 starts at home (90.0 IP, 34 ER); 3-3, 5.06 in 18 games, 14 starts on the road (89.0 IP, 50 ER)...was 9-7, 3.98 overall in 27 starts (179.0 IP, 84 ER).
1999
had success pitching as both a starter and a reliever after being selected from triple-A Tacoma on June 25...held hitters to a .167 average in relief and comepleted the year with a 6-2 record and 3.10 ERA.
1998
spent most of 1998 on Orlando's disabled list, rehabbing in Peoria from right shoulder surgery...made one rehab start with Peoria, tossing 3.0 innings of one-hit ball...reinstated from disabled list and transferred to triple-A Tacoma on Aug. 21...made three starts with the Rainiers amassing a 1-0 record with a 1.20 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 15 innings of action...selected from Tacoma on Sept. 9 and made his first Major League appearance since 1993b& won vs. Tampa Bay later that day, marking his first ML win since July 12, 1991 vs. Boston while with Minnesota...collected second win Sept. 15 at Minnesotab& suffered first loss at Anaheim Sept. 20...closed the season with a win over the AL West Champion Texas Rangers, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven in 8.0 IPb& played winter ball with Caguas of the Puerto Rico Winter Leagueb& tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee covering first baseb& underwent surgery to repair injury and was waived by Seattle on Dec. 14b&re-signed to a minor league contract Jan. 21.
