The Pittsburgh Pirates today added infielder Adam Frazier to the active roster on a one-year contract for the 2025 season.

Frazier recorded an 82.0 percent contact rate in 2024 in his only season as a member of the Royals while also playing in the postseason for the third straight year.

The 33-year-old Frazier was originally selected by the Pirates in the sixth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Mississippi State University.

Frazier was a two-time Gold Glove finalist as a second baseman with the Pirates in both 2019 and 2020. During his final year with Pittsburgh in 2021, he represented the Pirates at the All-Star Game while being recognized as the team’s Heart and Hustle Award winner for the second time in his career (also 2017).

The left-handed hitting Frazier has produced a .264 career average (903-for-3425) with 180 doubles, 28 triples, 60 home runs, 339 RBI and 468 runs scored in 1066 games in the big leagues with Pittsburgh (2016-21), San Diego (2021), Seattle (2022), Baltimore (2023) and Kansas City (2024).

Frazier has made 734 appearances at second base, 141 in left field, 98 in right field, 16 in center field, 15 at third base, five at shortstop, and one at first base during his big league career.

Right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado has been designated for assignment to make room for Frazier on the 40-man roster. Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster remains full.
