Yuli, Frazier head into break as POTW winners
The Astros' Yuli Gurriel and the Pirates' Adam Frazier ended the first half on a high note and have been named the American League (Gurriel) and National League (Frazier) Players of the Week presented by W.B. Mason for their outstanding efforts.
Gurriel went deep in all five games he played last week, hitting .429/.478/1.333 with six home runs and 13 RBIs overall.
Gurriel, now a two-time AL Player of the Week Award winner, is on pace to shatter his career high of 18 homers, as he already has 14 home runs at the 2019 All-Star break. He's the second Astro to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining George Springer, who shared the honors for the week of May 6-12.
Frazier, meanwhile, becomes a first-time winner after posting a ridiculous slash line of .600/.625/.933 with a homer, seven doubles and seven RBIs in seven games last week. He started the week by going 9-for-10 with six extra-base hits in two games against the Cubs and finished it with a trio of multihit efforts against the Brewers.
The Pirates have had two NL Player of the Week Award winners in 2019, with Josh Bell receiving the nod for the week of May 13-19.
