MIAMI -- Henry Davis, the Bucs' top prospect per MLB Pipeline and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 Draft, will be shut down for a couple weeks, per Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk.

“From what we learned, it was determined that the best course of action to potentially put Henry in the best position to preserve the majority of this season and the offseason is to have him be immobilized for a short period of time,” Tomczyk said. “After that immobilization, a new plan and return to play projection will happen.”

The team will determine a plan regarding Davis’ return to play after several weeks have passed, per Tomczyk.

Davis, whose last game was July 2, was placed on the seven-day injured list July 8 with a left wrist injury, the same wrist that was hit by a pitch earlier this season, causing him to miss several weeks.

Along with Pittsburgh’s No. 10 overall prospect RHP Mike Burrows, Davis was named to the Futures Game but will miss the exhibition.

In 41 games, Davis is hitting .268/.399/.483 with seven home runs.

Davis isn't the organization's only top prospect making his way back from injury. Infielder Nick Gonzales, the team's No. 3 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been recovering from a heel injury that landed him on the 60-day injured list. Gonzales had been in a walking boot for several weeks, but is now out of the boot, per Tomczyk.
