Never doubt the power of the Pirates' faithful. Just a few days after Adam Frazier was announced as a finalist for voting for the 2021 All-Star Game, which takes place Tuesday, July 13, he has overtaken the Braves' Ozzie Albies for the lead among National League second basemen in Tuesday’s All-Star Game ballot update. 

“I think it’s great,” Bucs manager Derek Shelton said of the effort by Pittsburgh fans. “I think it shows how passionate our fans are and how aware they are of how good a year that Adam Frazier is having. And I would encourage them to continue to get out and put him in that spot, because he deserves to be in that spot.”

Frazier has received 46% of Phase 2 votes, ahead of Albies (36%) and the Dodgers’ Gavin Lux (18%).

You can vote NOW, up until Thursday at 2 p.m. ET, before the starters will be revealed at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Entering Tuesday’s game against the Rockies, Frazier was second in the Majors in hits (98), tied for second in doubles (24) and fifth in batting average (.330). Among big league second basemen, Frazier leads in each of those categories.

“I think it would be great,” said Shelton, when asked about the possibility of Frazier getting the starting nod. “I think he's deserving. I think he's the guy that should be [the starter], so I'm really happy that people are voting that way [and] I hope they continue to vote that way.”

Whether he is made a starter by way of fan voting or named as a reserve through player balloting and selections made by the league, this figures to be Frazier’s first All-Star Game nod.

“It would mean a lot. I’ve been dreaming of that since I was a kid,” Frazier said Sunday. “Getting to the Major Leagues, and then being an All-Star, so it’d be pretty awesome if I am able to do that.”
