Brian Kohlscheen Selected as 2024 Dallas Green Award Winner

September 24th, 2024

Phillies Midwest Regional Supervisor Brian Kohlscheen has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Dallas Green Award, the club announced today.

Kohlscheen joined the Phillies in his current role in 2001 after 10 years as an area scout for the Atlanta Braves. During his tenure with the organization, the area scouts under Kohlscheen’s supervision have signed players such as Alec Bohm, Michael Bourn, Jake Diekman, J.A. Happ, Ryan Howard and 2024 first-round pick Dante Nori.

“I am forever grateful to have had the honor and privilege of working with Dallas for many years,” Kohlscheen said. “He was truly a special individual who set a high standard in all he did. One of the first things he said to me concerning scouting was, ‘Head and heart, championship players and people have it.’ Dallas’ friendship and hospitality impacts my life still today. I am humbled and honored to receive this award.”

The 2024 Dallas Green Award will be presented on the field on Wednesday, Sept. 25, prior to the 6:05 p.m. game against the Chicago Cubs. The award was established in 2011 to honor the accomplishments of Green, who spent 62 years in professional baseball, 46 of which were with the Phillies. Green passed away in March 2017 at the age of 82.

The award is presented annually to an amateur or professional scout who best exemplifies the Phillies’ standard for scouting while demonstrating the same loyalty, work ethic, dedication and passion as the award’s namesake. It is also recognition of the scout’s ability to judge not only a player’s talent, but also his character and heart.

“Brian Kohlscheen has distinguished himself in the baseball world and especially in the scouting community,” said Brian Barber, Phillies assistant general manager, amateur scouting. “Throughout his 33 years of scouting, Brian has shown what it means to be a tireless worker, a passionate representative of the organization and a first-class leader. The Phillies and I are grateful to have Brian working for us, and I’m thrilled that Brian is the recipient of this year’s Dallas Green Award.”

Past winners of the Dallas Green Award have been Dick Lawlor (2011), Bill Harper (2012), Eddie Bockman (2013), Gordon Lakey (2014), Sal Agostinelli (2015), Roy Tanner (2016), Joey Davis (2017), Jesús “Chalao” Méndez (2018), Mike Stauffer (2019), Darrell Conner (2021), Zach Friedman (2022) and Dean Albany (2023). The award was not given in 2020.
