'Dancing On My Own' singer has a billion reasons to thank Phils
As the Phillies have dominated their way through the past two postseasons, they’ve had their own anthem during the ride.
British singer and songwriter Calum Scott’s cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” has been a rallying cry of sorts for the Phillies in their recent October runs, and it's become a signature part of their clubhouse celebrations. On Wednesday, Scott announced that his song had reached 1 billion streams on Spotify. He gave a special thank you to the Phillies, who have completely embraced this song.
After it turned into a staple at Citizens Bank Park last October, the Phillies initially “retired” the song at the beginning of the 2023 season.
“It’s a second-place song,” Kyle Schwarber said before the season.
But after struggling through the first part of the season, the team brought back the anthem following a win on June 4. Since that point, the Phillies have gone a combined 70-41 in the regular season and postseason and find themselves two victories away from a second straight NL pennant.
