Amid trade rumors, Littell delivers 7 scoreless frames

ST. PETERSBURG -- has seen veterans Aaron Civale, Phil Maton, Randy Arozarena and Zach Eflin traded away over the past few weeks.

And he knows the departures likely won’t end there.

“The odds are, another guy or two is going to leave this locker room,” Littell said prior to his start Saturday against the Reds at Tropicana Field.

He could be one of those guys. Littell is one of a handful of Rays whose name has been bandied about in trade rumors recently. But the right-hander blocked out the noise and delivered seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 Tampa Bay victory.

The seven innings tied a season high for Littell, who limited the Reds to only three hits and one walk while striking out five. It was a strong rebound for the 28-year-old after he gave up five earned runs -- including three homers -- over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees on Monday.

The Rays’ offense backed Littell in the fifth inning with a three-run outburst that came within the span of just eight pitches. Alex Jackson opened the frame with a solo homer to left off of Reds starter Andrew Abbott, which was followed immediately by Yandy Díaz, who powered a fastball out to right-center field.

Amed Rosario then crushed a ball to center field that came about a foot from going out of the yard and giving the Rays back-to-back-to-back dingers. But he came home regardless as the next batter, Brandon Lowe, socked a fastball off the left-field wall for an RBI double.
