CHICAGO -- There really isn't anything missing from Yoan Moncada's game during the first week of the 2019 season.

But in the field, where Moncada has moved from second base to third, White Sox bench coach Joe McEwing continues to work on keeping Moncada's feet moving on throws to first. Manager Rick Renteria said Saturday Moncada tends to get flat-footed, throw underneath, get under the ball a little bit and either short-arm or pull balls.

"[McEwing]'s trying to have him stay behind the ball a little bit more," Renteria said. "Other than that, everything else has been really, really good. Makes plays great laterally, coming forward, taking jab steps back.

"His reaction off the ball is quick. He's as good as anybody I've ever seen over there. So, he'll be able to cover a lot of ground."

Moncada entered Saturday's contest hitting .458 with two home runs and 10 RBIs after driving in four during Friday's home-opener victory. His development after a 2018 season filled with offensive struggles has not surprised anyone with the team.

"People will continue to try to make adjustments," Renteria said. "But I'm hoping we're seeing the guy that everybody was expecting from the beginning, from the inception of acquiring him, and that he continues to grow. That experience of being in the big leagues has helped a lot. He's slowing the game down a little bit more."

Burr savors win No. 1

Lost in the shuffle of Friday's comeback was reliever Ryan Burr picking up his first career victory. Burr threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings before the White Sox rallied for three in the seventh.

"Obviously, I just wanted us to win in general," Burr said. "I didn't really care who got credit for it. But that last inning, I think Gio [Lucas Giolito] came up to me and said, 'Hey man, is this your first one?'

"I was like, 'First what?' 'First win.' I was like, looking at the scoreboard, 'Yeah. If this happens, it would be.' It was really cool."

Burr was thrilled to share the victory with his father, Scott, who was in attendance and celebrating the milestone.

"He's just always been my No. 1 fan," Burr said. "Years and years of taking me to practice and just being my biggest supporter. For him to be here for it, it was perfect. It was like a dream."

Sanchez staying strong

Despite a .048 average and three errors at second entering Saturday, Yolmer Sanchez has not lost his upbeat demeanor. He also nailed Dan Vogelbach trying to go from second to third on an eighth inning grounder to second Friday, cutting down the tying run as a defensive replacement entering that inning.

"I'm going to stay the same," Sanchez said. "It doesn’t matter the results. Yesterday I made a good play and we win the game. That's all that matters. At the end of the day, we are here to help the team and win games. That's it. I'm going to keep my energy."

Santana taking the fifth

The White Sox starter for Tuesday remains to be announced on the team notes, but veteran Ervin Santana was dressed and in the clubhouse Saturday. The right-hander figures to move into the rotation against the Rays.

"He threw a side today," said Renteria of Santana. "Assuming everything is well, we're hoping that he'll be a part of this, obviously. But there's still some things to be determined. We'll just say he's looking good right now."

Santana, 36, will earn $4.3 million this season in the Majors.
