NEW YORK -- The Yankees took advantage of their scheduled Mother's Day game with the A's on Sunday at Yankee Stadium by wearing some of the unique pink gear to say "thank you" to their moms. As Dellin Betances put it, "This is our chance to send a little love out to our moms."
"I've liked what MLB does on Mother's Day since they started," Giancarlo Stanton said. "The ribbons on the uniforms [to raise breast cancer awareness] and the way people get to wear different looks? I think it's all pretty cool."

Aaron Judge had custom-made cleats for the occasion. They have a chocolate-dipped strawberry theme to them -- a favorite gift for his mother -- and the length of the laces are covered with the words "thank you mom." The laces are an homage to the time his mother came onto the field during a T-ball game to tie his shoes.

"The cleats are cool, but I don't wear them because you don't get a chance to break them in," Stanton said. "But I like wearing the pink long sleeves and I'm going with the socks this year and the batting gloves."
Betances was showing off a pair of Jordan-brand cleats that he had on in the bullpen that are adorned with a pink floral design. He said he too was going with the pink long sleeves, but that there aren't many other options for pitchers.

"Hitters can wear those pink wrist bands and we pitchers can't," he said, "Plus they have the option of going with pink bats. ... The gear is great, but the real thing is showing appreciation to all the moms -- ours and everyone's. Believe it or not, we get excited about today and [this is] our chance to send a message."
Yanks manager Aaron Boone is no exception. His family was all about baseball. His father, Bob, was big league player, coach, manager and front-office executive. He and his older brother Brett played in the big leagues and his younger brother Matt played in the Minors.

"She was our biggest cheerleader -- it felt like no one in the world could love you more," Boone said Sunday. "My mom has been the ultimate baseball mom. ... I think back to my mom, when Brett and I were playing in the big leagues and my dad is managing and my little brother was in the Minor Leagues. It was a nightly thing with her, watching games on satellite and getting on the Internet to follow what my little brother was doing. She had a huge role in me being here."
