The New York Yankees released first baseman Chris Carter, the club announced Tuesday morning.
Carter was signed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal this offseason after clubbing 41 home runs for the Brewers in 2016, which tied the Rockies' Nolan Arenado for the National League lead.
The 30-year-old struggled to put the bat on the ball in his 62 games for New York in 2017, hitting .201 with more than twice the amount of strikeouts (76) as he had hits (37).
New York figures to roll with 26-year-old Ji-Man Choi at first base for the time being. Choi, called up to the Majors on July 4, has two home runs and four RBIs in 11 at-bats for the Yankees.
The club has also been rumored to be in the trade market for a first baseman with Christopher Austin (right hamstring strain) and Greg Bird (right ankle bruise) both nursing injuries.
