Rule 5 pick Rutckyj returned to Yankees
TAMPA, Fla. -- The Yankees have reacquired left-hander Evan Rutckyj, a Rule 5 Draft pick returned from the Braves, and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Rutckyj, 24, made four appearances for Atlanta this spring, permitting an unearned run and one hit over three innings. He walked five and struck out two.
The erratic control was out of character for Rutckyj, who pitched last season for Class A Advanced Tampa and Double-A Trenton. He was a combined 3-2 with a 2.63 ERA and one save in 36 appearances, striking out 82 against 21 walks in 61 2/3 innings.
Rutckyj was originally a 16th-round selection out of high school by New York in the 2010 Draft. The Yanks had two players selected in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft; outfielder Jake Cave was also taken, and he is still in camp with the Reds.
