TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier is expected to miss several days of camp with what is being described as a "mild concussion," the result of making a leaping, tumbling catch against the Pirates over the weekend, manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees' 4-3 victory against the Phillies on Monday.
Playing against the Pirates on Saturday, Frazier hit the back of his head against a chain-link fence that covers the scoreboard at LECOM Park in Bradenton. Frazier initially did not complain about any symptoms, playing 4 1/2 innings in the Yanks' 4-1 Grapefruit League victory, but said he noticed a cloudy sensation later that day.

"I've never had a concussion. I felt fine," Frazier said. "But once I sat down and stuff really started to settle in, I guess my adrenaline kind of exited my body. It's like a state of euphoria, is what I felt like I was in -- like an out-of-body experience. Today, I feel a whole lot better. I still have a slight headache, so I've got to get rid of that."

Boone said that the Yankees are following concussion protocol with Frazier, who will resume riding a stationary bicycle on Tuesday to see how he responds to increased activity.
"Obviously, it's not something you want to mess with, but at the same time, I feel pretty good that it is a minor situation," Boone said. "I was texting with him last night. He was reminding me that he could turn on 96 [mph] right now."
Frazier has set his sights on making the Yankees' Opening Day roster, despite a crowded outfield mix that includes Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
"There's not a whole lot going on up in my head, so I'm not too worried about losing anything," Frazier said, joking.
Here comes the Judge
Judge is expected to be in the Yankees' lineup Wednesday against the Tigers at George M. Steinbrenner Field, marking the American League Rookie of the Year's first game action of the spring. Judge has been slightly behind the other outfielders due to left shoulder surgery performed in November.
"That's what we talked about before spring even started; probably missing the first few games, probably about five or six," Judge said. "And once I got a couple of live [at-bats] on the back fields, I got my timing ready. The arm feels good. Wednesday's the date and I'm looking forward to it."
High praise
Sonny Gray was sharp in his first outing of the spring, permitting a pair of hits with no runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Gray threw 20 of 29 pitches for strikes and seemed to sync well with catcher Gary Sanchez. The Yankees opted not to start Sanchez behind the plate when Gray started Game 4 of the 2017 American League Championship Series against the Astros.
"We've put in a lot of communication between the two of us already in spring," Gray said. "We're constantly bouncing ideas and feedback off each other. He always is working his tail off. He's really, in my opinion, one of the best catchers in the game."
Adjustment process
Sanchez is still adapting to the new rule, which limits teams to six mound visits per game, plus one for every extra inning played. When prospect Chance Adams struggled in the third inning, allowing a run-scoring sacrifice fly to Carlos Santana, Sanchez said he was unsure if he could or should visit the mound.

"I'm always talking to the pitchers and trying to communicate," Sanchez said through an interpreter. "If I see something, I let them know how we can make an adjustment on the fly. Today, when Chance was pitching, it was tough because I wanted to go out there -- but at the same time, not go out there. … Sometimes, if I give a sign and the pitcher doesn't pick it up, I don't know if I can run out there or not."
