Judge has surgery, should be fine for camp
American League Rookie of the Year Award winner Aaron Judge underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on Monday. He is expected to complete his recovery before the start of Spring Training.
Judge, 25, traveled to Los Angeles for the treatment, where Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the surgery. The procedure involved a loose-body removal and cartilage cleanup.
Judge completed a historic rookie season in 2017 in which he led the AL with 52 home runs, 128 runs and 127 walks while posting a .284/.422/.627 slash line. He finished second in the AL Most Valuable Player Award voting behind the Astros' Jose Altuve.
Position players are set to arrive at the Yankees' Spring Training site in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 18, while the team's first Spring Training game is on Feb. 23.
