Ivy Leaguer's big day: 4 HRs, 2 slams, RBI record!
Jake Gehri entered Sunday's game between Yale and Princeton hitting .184 on the season. When the Yale catcher left the field following the contest, that batting average was 57 points higher, and he was walking away with the all-time Ivy League record for RBIs in a single game.
Gehri had the game of his life in Yale's 13-6 victory at Clarke Field in Princeton, New Jersey, going 4-for-5 with four home runs and 11 RBIs for the Bulldogs. The senior launched a two-run shot in the second inning, a grand slam in the third, a solo homer in the sixth and another grand slam in the seventh.
Going into this season, Gehri had hit 10 homers in his collegiate career between 2019 and '20 (the '21 Ivy League season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). He increased that career total by 40 percent in a single day.
After that historic performance, we should probably start calling him Jake Gehri(g) from now on.
