Quickest path to a run? Pop it up into wind
May 1st, 2021
Nolan Arenado doesn't need any help driving in runs, having led the Majors in RBIs twice in his career. But the five-time All-Star got some help from Mother Nature on Friday night at PNC Park to extend the Cardinals' early lead over the Pirates.
With two outs in the third inning and Tommy Edman running on contact from first base, Arenado hit a sky-high pop on a 3-0 pitch that seemed like an easy final out. Shortstop Kevin Newman drifted out, left fielder Ka'ai Tom ranged in and after a few moments and some severe wind gusts, the ball dropped to the grass, letting Edman slide home safely with St. Louis' second run.
The RBI double was the second of the night for Arenado.
