Will Ferrell scheduled to suit up for White Sox tomorrow as actor/comedian plays every position for 10 teams in five Cactus League games
GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Chicago White Sox announced today that actor/comedian Will Ferrell will play for the White Sox Thursday in the team's 4:05 p.m. game against the San Francisco Giants at Camelback Ranch - Glendale. Ferrell is participating in a once-in-a-lifetime role for the lifelong baseball fan, as production begins on a new special from Funny Or Die, in partnership with Major League Baseball, to air exclusively on HBO later this year.
Tickets remain for the March 12 game between the White Sox and the World Series Champion Giants and are available at whitesox.com or CamelbackRanchBaseball.com. Gates to Camelback Ranch - Glendale will open at 1:05 p.m. Thursday with batting practice and infield for both teams open to the public. The White Sox will hit from 1:05-2:05 p.m. while the Giants hit from 2:05-3:05 p.m.
Dedicating Thursday's project to the fight against cancer, Ferrell also is honoring the historic feat by Oakland's Bert Campaneris five decades ago by playing every position on the field and maybe some off the field for 10 different teams in the same day.
"Given his enormous popularity, we think Will Ferrell's appearance in our spring training game against the Giants will be a fun and entertaining experience for our fans," said Jeff Overton, president and general manager of Camelback Ranch -- Glendale. "It's for a great cause - the fight against cancer - and he is sure to deliver a few laughs during his memorable visit to Camelback Ranch."
A complete list of the games in which Ferrell will be playing is below:

Ferrell's goal is to honor Campaneris while also helping organizations dedicated to fighting cancer, including Cancer for College. Formed in 1993, Cancer for College is a charity that helps individuals adversely affected by cancer realize their dream of a college education.
An important part of the fund-raising efforts will be game-used memorabilia from Ferrell's journey across the five ballparks that will be auctioned online later in the year on MLB.com with proceeds being donated to Cancer for College as well as Stand Up To Cancer, a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research. MLB is the founding donor of Stand Up To Cancer.
Ferrell's historic day will be chronicled in the exclusive HBO special which will air later this year and also feature major-league players, managers, coaches, executives and fans. Fans can follow along live and on-demand throughout the day across MLB Network, MLB.com, whitesox.com and all the official social media accounts of MLB and the White Sox.
On September 8, 1965, Campaneris, in only his second Major League season, went 0-for-3 playing all nine positions for the Kansas City Athletics in a game against the California Angels. Campaneris is expected to be there with Ferrell as he begins his journey Thursday.
The White Sox agreed to move the start time for Thursday's game against the Giants to 4:05 p.m. to assist with the project. This adjustment from the original 1:05 p.m. time slot was to accommodate a request by Major League Baseball as part of the collaboration with HBO and Funny Or Die to film the project.
