White Sox statement on Tony La Russa
CHICAGO -- The White Sox issued a statement Thursday regarding the legal proceedings of Tony La Russa, who was announced as the team’s 41st manager on Oct. 29.
La Russa was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence the day before the announcement of his hiring, in an incident dating back to Feb. 24 in Arizona, according to numerous reports. The White Sox have said they were aware of the situation at the time of the hiring. Here is the statement from the organization:
“As Tony La Russa’s attorney said in his statement, Tony deserves all the assumptions and protections granted to everyone in a court of law, especially while this is a pending matter. Once his case reaches resolution in the courts, we will have more to say. The White Sox understand the seriousness of these charges.”
