Renteria hospitalized after feeling light-headed
MINNEAPOLIS -- White Sox manager Rick Renteria was feeling light-headed prior to Monday's game vs. the Twins and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for precautionary reasons, the White Sox announced.
Chicago bench coach Joe McEwing served as manager in Renteria's absence and guided the team to an 8-5 victory. Following the game, a club spokesperson said Renteria will be kept overnight at Hennepin County Medical Center for further evaluations.
"We just gritted through without our manager," starter Lucas Giolito said. "Joe's done a fantastic job in the situation that he's had to manage. Team got together and we got a good win."
Renteria returned to Target Field midway through Monday's game to collect his belongings before heading back to the hospital.
"Our thoughts and prayers were with him the whole evening," McEwing said. "He's always in our mind. He's such an amazing leader and amazing person."
