The White Sox on Thursday named longtime Royals executive Jin Wong as their new assistant general manager, filling a key role under White Sox GM Chris Getz.

Wong spent 24 seasons in the Royals' organization, starting in 2000 as a scouting operations coordinator. He climbed the baseball operations department, becoming the director in 2004-05, before being promoted to director of baseball administration in 2006. He added assistant GM duties in 2015.

In his role, Wong negotiated key contracts in the Royals’ rise to back-to-back American League pennants in 2014-15 and a World Series championship in '15, including extensions with Zack Greinke, Joakim Soria, Billy Butler, Alcides Escobar, Salvador Perez (three times), Kelvin Herrera, Eric Hosmer, Yordano Ventura, Lorenzo Cain, Alex Gordon, Mike Moustakas and Danny Duffy.

The White Sox will tap into that experience in Wong’s new position, where he’ll oversee contract negotiations, salary arbitration, budgeting and payroll management and compliance with MLB rules and regulations.

Wong and Getz worked together in the Royals' front office, where Getz was an assistant to player development from 2014-16 following the conclusion of his playing career.
