CHICAGO -- Tyler Saladino started at second base again Wednesday, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura won't commit to Saladino being there most of the time in Brett Lawrie's absence. Lawrie was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 22) with a strained left hamstring. Infielder Carlos Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.
"It'll be a combination," Ventura said. "We could also have spots in there coming up on the road trip where Sally could play some third base, [Todd] Frazier would play first and [Jose] Abreu DH and [Avisaíl García] to right, [Adam] Eaton to center. There are a couple of combinations there. If anybody went over to third, it would be Sal more than Sanchy."
White Sox retain the Crosstown Cup
With two wins in the first two games of this four-game matchup with the Cubs, the White Sox retained the Crosstown Cup. The team holding the Cup from the previous year keeps it in the case of a tie.
It's not the ultimate prize desired by the White Sox but rewarding nonetheless.
"Any time you win an award -- I don't care if my grandma gives me an award during checkers, I'm excited," Eaton said. "I don't really care. But if you play for anything, there's some extra emphasis there.
"I definitely do think guys take pride in it for sure. But more pride in it that our side of town is happy with us in that sense that we've taken the Cup back. You don't want to put too much emphasis on any particular series. But at the same time, if it makes our fans happy that we got the Cup back, then that's what we do."
Upcoming rotation
José Quintana and Miguel González will open this weekend's three-game set in Minnesota, with Sunday's starter listed as TBA. That spot could go to Carlos Rodón, who is on the disabled list with a sprained left wrist, but returned Tuesday from an injury rehab assignment and is close to game-ready. Rodon threw a side session Wednesday.
"He's going to have another side, have a day off tomorrow and have another sideline," White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said. "Then it's going to be up to us to figure out where we pencil him in."
