White Sox acquire Pinto from Phillies
The White Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Ricardo Pinto from the Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for international bonus pool money.
The 24-year-old Pinto made his big league debut last year and appeared in 25 games out of the bullpen for Philadelphia, struggling to a 7.89 ERA. He also recorded a 3.86 ERA over 19 appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Phillies originally signed Pinto as an international free agent, and he won the organization's 2015 Paul Owens Award as its best Minor League pitcher. Pinto also pitched for the World Team in the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
The team announced Pinto will be assigned to Class A Advanced Winston-Salem at the start of the '18 season. The move increases the White Sox 40-man roster to 39.
