Vote NOW to help 3 White Sox start ASG

June 27th, 2021

CHICAGO -- White Sox first baseman , third baseman and catcher moved to Phase 2 of All-Star voting and have the chance to be voted into an American League starting slot for the 2021 All-Star Game.

The top three vote-getters at each position (top nine outfielders) will now advance to the second phase of voting to determine the American League and National League starters for the Midsummer Classic, to be played on July 13 at Colorado’s Coors Field on FOX.

You can vote NOW up until 1 p.m. CT on Thursday. Fans can submit one ballot on MLB platforms and may submit up to 17 unique player votes during that 74-hour voting period.

Pitchers and reserves for both squads -- totaling 24 for the NL and 23 for the AL -- will be determined through a combination of player ballot choices and selections made by the Commissioner’s Office.

The All-Star Game starters will be announced during the 2021 Google MLB All-Star Starters Reveal at 8 p.m. on Thursday on ESPN. The rest of the 2021 All-Star rosters will be named on Sunday, July 4, at 4:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Abreu, who was voted in as an American League starter in 2018, made the final three at first base along with Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Houston’s Yuli Gurriel. Grandal is joined at catcher by the Royals' Salvador Perez and Houston’s Martín Maldonado, while the final three at third also includes Boston’s Rafael Devers and Houston’s Alex Bregman.

“That would be a blessing, for sure,” said Moncada, through interpreter Billy Russo last weekend in Houston, when asked about making his first All-Star appearance. “But you know what? That is something that I’m trying not to think about, because I can’t control that. My focus right now is on the field and the things that I can do to help this team to win games and to perform.”

Vote totals will reset in this second phase of voting. Guerrero Jr. was No. 1 at first with a total of 2,704,788, followed by Gurriel and Abreu. Perez topped the AL catchers with 2,150,968, with Maldonado and Grandal second and third, respectively.

Devers earned the Phase 1 top spot at third with 1,569,381 votes, trailed by Bregman and Moncada, in that order. Tim Anderson missed out on advancing to Phase 2 at shortstop, finishing fourth with 482,352 and behind Houston’s Carlos Correa at 781,400. Nick Madrigal, who is out for the season after having his right hamstring tear surgically repaired, finished fourth at second, while Yermín Mercedes ranked fifth at designated hitter.

The 91st Midsummer Classic will be televised nationally by FOX Sports; in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS; and worldwide by partners in more than 180 countries. During the game, fans may visit MLB.com and the 30 club sites to submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. FOX Deportes will provide Spanish-language coverage in the United States, while ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage.
