Team to watch
If you like good young talent, then Clearwater might be your spot. There are eight members of the Top 30 and five of the top 15 headed to the Florida State League to begin the year. It’s a group headlined by Justin Crawford, the club’s first-round pick in 2022, and watching him roam center field and steal bags is worth the price of admission on its own. Crawford is joined by four other members of the Phillies’ '22 Draft class as well.

Players we could see in MLB in 2023
If Andrew Painter was healthy, this answer would be easy … or already provided. Don’t be shocked if Mick Abel clicks this year and makes his way to Philly before the year is over. McKinley Moore has already gotten his first callup to the big leagues from Lehigh Valley and his Triple-A teammate, outfielder Simon Muzziotti, could help out at some point. Keep an eye on right-handed reliever Andrew Baker in Reading. His stuff looks like it could get big leaguers out.

New faces
Gabriel Rincones Jr. was the Phillies’ third-round pick last year and didn’t play last summer. He has some serious offensive potential, with power to spare, and he’ll start unleashing it on professional pitching in Clearwater.

On the shelf
Everyone is waiting nervously to find out how Painter’s right elbow is doing as he was taking a month off from throwing. He’s scheduled to start throwing next week. Griff McGarry is dealing with a side issue and will head to Reading once he’s given a clean bill of health. Both Christian McGowan and Micah Ottenbreit are rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, so it will really be 2024 when the Phillies can see what healthy versions of them can do. Nikau Pouaka-Grego tore his ACL in the Australian Baseball League and will miss the 2023 season.
