PHILADELPHIA -- got the hard parts out of the way early.

He saved the relatively easy stuff for the end.

But hitting a cycle in the big leagues is never easy. In fact, there had been only nine cycles in Phillies history until Wilson hit for one in Thursday night’s 13-3 victory over the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. Wilson tripled and singled in a five-run fourth inning. He homered in the seventh.

In the eighth, Wilson laced a line drive to right-center field. Nationals right fielder Alex Call tried to make a diving catch, but missed. The ball deflected off Call’s glove toward center field, which allowed Wilson to cruise into second for a double.

Wilson is the first Phillies player to hit for a cycle since J.T. Realmuto on June 12, 2023, in Arizona. Wilson is also the first Philly player to hit for a cycle at the Bank since David Bell against the Expos on June 28, 2004.

Previous cycles this season were achieved by the Rangers' Wyatt Langford on June 30, the Astros' Yordan Alvarez on July 21 and the Marlins' Xavier Edwards on July 28.
