Watch Mets-Nats live on YouTube today
The National League Wild Card race comes to YouTube on Wednesday as two playoff contenders, the Mets and the Nationals, clash in an exclusive digital-only broadcast.
The finale of the three-game series in Washington is the latest in the 13-game MLB Game of the Week Live on YouTube series, which began in July. An MLB Network production, the afternoon bout is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET at Nationals Park and can be viewed for free on MLB’s official YouTube page.
The Nationals trail the Braves in the NL East, but they’re in control of the top NL Wild Card spot and the coveted home-field advantage, while the Mets are among the several clubs competing behind Washington for a spot in the one-game playoff.
Right-hander Zack Wheeler will start for New York. He’ll hope for better results than his previous four matchups with the Nats; he’s 0-2 with a 7.94 in four starts against them in 2019. He’s coming off a strong performance in Philadelphia in which he held the Phillies to one run in six innings.
Washington will turn to righty Anibal Sanchez, who’s faced New York twice this season, most recently on Aug. 11, when he allowed three runs in five innings at Citi Field. The 35-year-old veteran has held his opponents to three or fewer runs in four of his last five starts.
The Mets’ lineup received a boost this week as Robinson Canó came off the injured list Tuesday, but the club will ease him back into a regular role slowly as he returns from a torn left hamstring sustained just four weeks ago.
Wednesday’s game is the last regular-season matchup between these clubs, but they could meet again in the playoffs.
Next up on YouTube is a matchup between the Blue Jays and Rays at Tropicana Field on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
