A notable backdrop to this series emerged before a pitch was thrown in Friday's opener, with the two clubs involved in a bizarre altercation between the Giants' Joc Pederson and the Reds' Tommy Pham that stemmed from a fantasy football disagreement. On Saturday, Pham was suspended through Sunday's game.
Longtime Giants play-by-play man Jon Miller steps in this week for Jason Benetti and is joined by Hall of Famer and Reds legend Barry Larkin as well as Giants broadcaster Shawn Estes, a former Major League pitcher.
MLB Sunday Leadoff on Peacock debuted on May 8, beginning an 18-week schedule of exclusive MLB contests every Sunday morning. Each week, Benetti will be joined in the booth by local analysts covering the participating teams.
NBC Sports’ Ahmed Fareed hosts the MLB Sunday Leadoff pre- and postgame shows each week, and also serves as the in-game reporter. This Sunday, Fareed will be joined by Estes and Rob Friedman, aka PitchingNinja on Twitter (@PitchingNinja), who will provide pregame pitching breakdowns.
The MLB Sunday Leadoff game each week is the only game scheduled until 1:30 p.m. ET, when the rest of the day’s action will begin. The start time for each MLB Sunday Leadoff game is 11:30 a.m. ET through June 12, and noon ET for the remainder of the games through Sept. 4.
