Dodgers injury updates: Buehler, Cingrani
ANAHEIM -- In furnace-like conditions at Angel Stadium on Friday afternoon, Dodgers pitchers Walker Buehler and Tony Cingrani threw bullpen sessions in the latest steps of their recoveries from injuries.
Buehler, who threw an impressive three-plus innings in a Minor League rehab start for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday, said he was not impacted by a healing microfractured rib, and if he cut short his session by a few pitches it was became of the heat, with Anaheim temperatures peaking at 114 degrees.
Buehler will throw a five-inning simulated game in Anaheim before Sunday's series finale and the club will decide if he needs another rehab start or can be activated late next week.
Cingrani, placed on the disabled list June 7 for the second time with a shoulder strain, preceded Buehler with a bullpen session and then drove to Arizona to continue his rehab at the club's Camelback Ranch training complex.
Manager Dave Roberts said he cut a few minutes off each group's batting practice sessions before the game against the Angels because of the heat.
Matt Kemp served as the designated hitter on Friday night and Roberts said Justin Turner would DH on Saturday. Sunday's DH is to be determined. Roberts said he's found that Yasiel Puig is "too antsy" to sit around waiting for at-bats as a designated hitter.
Ruiz, Diaz in Futures Game
Prospects Keibert Ruiz and Yusniel Diaz were named to the International Team and will represent the Dodgers in the 2018 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 15, at Nationals Park. MLB Pipeline ranks Ruiz No. 2 and Diaz No. 4 in the organization. Ruiz is a catcher from Venezuela and Diaz an outfielder from Cuba. Both play for Double-A Tulsa.
