Vlad Jr. wins arbitration hearing record $19.9M for '24
Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won a 2024 salary of $19.9 million in arbitration Wednesday, the highest arbitration salary awarded in a case decided by a hearing. He topped the previous mark of $14 million earned by Teoscar Hernández last year.
Toronto's offer to Guerrero was $18.05 million, and Guerrero's 2024 salary represents an increase of $5.4 million.
Guerrero, the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., is a three-time All-Star in five Major League seasons, as well as a Gold Glove Award winner at first base. His finest campaign came in 2021, when he finished runner-up in American League MVP Award voting -- Guerrero hit .311/.401/.601 with 48 home runs that year, in which he was also named All-Star Game MVP.
Guerrero, who turns 25 on March 16, has seen his power numbers decline over the past two seasons, but he remains a very productive hitter for the Blue Jays. From 2022-23, he posted an .804 OPS with 58 homers. He won the All-Star Home Run Derby in Seattle prior to last year's Midsummer Classic, matching a feat also accomplished by his father, who won the 2007 competition in San Francisco.
