When the Blue Jays begin their four-game series against the Angels in Anaheim on Tuesday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will have some special new gear.

Guerrero will pay tribute to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, with two new pairs of customized Jordan cleats. Both sets feature portraits of Kobe and Gianna Bryant by artist Mike Jordan, known across sports for his hand-painted custom shoe designs.

Jordan has been working with Guerrero on the project since June in preparation for the series. The Blue Jays have not made a trip to Los Angeles since 2019. Guerrero, who grew up watching Kobe Bryant, wanted to take the opportunity to honor the Lakers legend and his daughter, who died in January 2020 in a tragic helicopter crash.

Once the series has concluded, Guerrero has shared his plans to gift one of the pairs to Vanessa Bryant.
