Umpire Scott sidelined with concussion
Veteran was hit in face mask by foul tip Saturday
PHOENIX -- Veteran Major League umpire Dale Scott, driven from Saturday night's Dodgers-D-backs game after taking a foul ball off the face mask, has been sidelined with a concussion, crew chief Dan Iassogna said Sunday.
Scott was hit near the chin when the second pitch thrown by Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy was fouled by Jean Segura. After being looked at by a trainer, Scott left the field through the Los Angeles dugout.
First-base umpire Lance Barrett took over behind the plate and the game continued with a three-umpire crew, with the D-backs coming out on top, 2-1, in the 12th.
Stu Scheurwater was called up from Triple-A to replace Scott for Sunday's series finale. Scott also suffered a suspected concussion when he took a José Bautista foul tip off the mask and had to leave a 2013 game between the Mariners and the Blue Jays.
