Twins to open Spring Training games to fans

February 12th, 2021

MINNEAPOLIS -- A limited number of seats will be available to fans at Twins home Spring Training games at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla., the club announced on Feb. 3. Single-game ticket sales will become available to Spring Training season-ticket holders on Thursday, while the remainder of tickets will go on sale to the general public on Feb. 24.

The Twins intend to limit capacity to around 2,400 fans per Spring Training game at the 8,730-seat stadium, representing a roughly 28% capacity. In October, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on sporting events, though professional sports teams in the state have largely maintained capacity restrictions -- including for Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla., this past Sunday.

In coordination with Major League Baseball and public health officials, the Twins will implement enhanced safety and health protocols at the facility in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As part of those protocols, all guests aged 2 or older will be required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth unless actively eating or drinking at their seat. Guests will also be prohibited from soliciting autographs or otherwise making direct contact with on-field personnel.

The club has developed a distanced seating plan utilizing "pods" of two to four contiguous seats. All tickets must be purchased in groups of two or four, and sales are restricted to one buyer per pod. Tickets will be available at twinsbaseball.com, the MLB Ballpark App or 1-800-33-TWINS.

"Fans are truly what make baseball great, and the Minnesota Twins are beyond thrilled to begin safely welcoming ours back into ballparks for the 2021 season, starting with Spring Training home games at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers,” said team president Dave St. Peter in a statement. "The Twins, the Mighty Mussels, Major League Baseball and Lee County -- our partners for 30 years -- are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our guests, players, staff and employees. We are confident in the protocols and procedures we are putting into place at the CenturyLink Sports Complex, and we look forward to again seeing our fans inside Hammond Stadium for Twins Spring Training baseball."

After the league and MLB Players Association were unable to reach an amended agreement for the 2021 season, teams are preparing for an on-time start to Spring Training. The Twins plan to have pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 18 ahead of their first workout on Feb. 19, with the first full-squad workouts scheduled to take place on Feb. 23.

The Twins' new slate of Grapefruit League games is scheduled to begin with a Feb. 28 matchup against the Red Sox at Hammond Stadium, with the majority of the 29 games slated to take place against a regionalized group of teams featuring Boston, Tampa Bay and Atlanta. The Twins also have a limited number of games on the schedule against Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

The club has not yet announced any plans regarding the possibility of fans at regular-season games at Target Field. The Twins haven't played in front of fans in any capacity since March 2020.
