Twins sign outfielder Buss to Minors contract
Left-handed hitter won PCL batting title last season
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins continued to add depth via Minor League signings this offseason, signing outfielder Nick Buss to a Minor League contract on Friday.
The lefty-hitting Buss, who won the Pacific Coast League batting title last season with Triple-A El Paso, has limited Major League experience and is likely to open the year with Triple-A Rochester.
Buss, 31, hit .348/.395/.541 with 11 homers, 19 doubles and eight triples in 114 games with the Padres' top Minor League affiliate in 2017. He saw action defensively in left field, right field and at first base.
Buss, originally selected by the Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2008 Draft from USC, is a career .294/.349/.440 hitter in 1,079 Minor League games. He played eight games for the Dodgers in '13 and 36 games for the Angels in '16, hitting .180/.229/.300 with a homer, a triple and eight RBIs in the Majors.
Other Minor League signings by the Twins this offseason include infielders Leonardo Reginatto, Brock Stassi, Gregorio Petit and Taylor Featherston, outfielders James Ramsey and Ryan LaMarre, catchers Wynston Sawyer, Bobby Wilson and Willians Astudillo and right-hander Myles Jaye.
