MINNEAPOLIS -- Byron Buxton fell from the No. 1 overall prospect to the No. 2 prospect, but the Twins placed six players on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, as announced Friday night on MLB Network.
Buxton, who made his Major League debut last year but still has rookie status going into 2016, was replaced by Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager as the game's top prospect. But the center fielder headlines a crop of impressive prospects from the Twins' organization, including right-hander Jose Berrios, (No. 19), outfielder Max Kepler (No. 44), left-hander Tyler Jay (No. 60), shortstop Nick Gordon (No. 91) and infielder Jorge Polanco (No. 97).

The Phillies, with seven prospects among the Top 100, were the only team with more prospects on the list than the Twins. The Cubs and Rockies also placed six prospects in the Top 100. It marked the second year in a row the Twins had six prospects ranked, but right-handers Kohl Stewart and Alex Meyer fell out of the Top 100, while Miguel Sano lost his rookie status and is no longer eligible.
The annual ranking of baseball's Top 100 Prospects is assembled by MLBPipeline.com Draft and prospect experts Jonathan Mayo, Jim Callis and Mike Rosenbaum, who compile input from industry sources, including scouts and scouting directors. It is based on analysis of players' skill sets, upsides, proximity to the Majors and potential immediate impact to their teams. Only players with rookie status entering the 2016 season are eligible for the list. The rankings follow the guidelines laid out by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who were at least 23 years old when they signed and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible, which is why Byung Ho Park isn't on the list despite his rookie status.

Buxton, 22, had another strong showing in the Minors, hitting .305/.367/.500 with seven homers, 13 triples and 22 stolen bases in 72 games between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester. He struggled a bit in his first taste of the Majors, hitting .209/.250/.326 in 46 games, but he played much better in September.

Berrios, 21, continues to climb up the prospect lists, as he's coming off a dominating season in the Minors, posting a combined 2.87 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A. He also led all Minor Leaguers with 175 strikeouts in 166 1/3 innings.

Kepler, 22, made his Twins debut in three games late last season after being named the MVP of the Southern League after hitting .322/.416/.531 with 13 homers and 32 doubles in 112 games

Jay was drafted by the Twins as the No. 6 overall pick in June, and he had a 3.93 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings with Class A Advanced Fort Myers. The 21-year-old will be converted into a starter this year.

Gordon, the brother of Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon and son of former All-Star reliever Tom Gordon, hit .277/.336/.369 with seven triples and 25 stolen bases with Class A Cedar Rapids. The 20-year-old is considered a strong defender at shortstop.

Polanco, 22, has had brief time in the Majors each of the last two years, and hit .288/.339/.386 between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He's split time between shortstop and second base, but is more likely to project as a second baseman.
