MINNEAPOLIS -- had three of the Twins’ 14 hits and hit his first Major League homer as Minnesota defeated Houston, 9-3, on Saturday.

Twins third baseman singled in his first two at-bats to tie an MLB record with hits in 12 consecutive at-bats. The streak finally ended on a routine flyout to left field in the sixth inning.

(6-5) gave up three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings while throwing a season-high 110 pitches. He almost wiggled out of a jam in the sixth, when the Astros had runners on second and third and one out. Protecting a 7-3 lead, Ryan got Jon Singleton -- who had homered off him in his previous at-bat -- to pop out. Then he got ahead of Jake Meyers 0-2 before losing him to a walk, loading the bases.

Jorge Alcala came out of the bullpen and retired Mauricio Dubón on a flyout to center, ending the threat.

The Twins capitalized on a break in the first inning and took an early lead. Castro and Carlos Correa led off with singles against Hunter Brown (6-6). Trevor Larnach was up next, and he worked the count to 2-2. Castro took off with the next pitch, and as third baseman Alex Bregman ran to the base to await a throw, Larnach hit a chopper through the spot Bregman had just vacated on the left side of the infield, allowing Castro to score.

Correa came around on Max Kepler’s sac fly to center field, putting the Twins on top 2-0.

Minnesota tacked on three more in the second on Castro’s RBI double and run-scoring singles by Miranda and Carlos Santana.

Bregman’s two-out RBI double got the Astros on the board in the third.

Lee hit a two-run shot to right in the bottom of the third, and Singleton matched that with a two-run blast of his own in the top of the fourth, making it 7-3 Twins. Byron Buxton added a two-run homer in the seventh inning, as the bullpen closed the door the rest of the way.
