Turner gets start at third on Wright's day off

CINCINNATI -- What may have been David Wright's final off-day of the year coincided with Justin Turner's first game in two weeks.

As scheduled, Wright sat out Wednesday's series finale against the Reds, his second rest in six games since returning from the disabled list. Manager Terry Collins initially indicated that Wright would play in eight of the Mets' final 10 games, suggesting that his captain will start all four this weekend against the Brewers. But Collins said Wednesday that Wright could receive one final day off over the weekend.

In Wright's place Wednesday, Turner started at third base for the first time since straining his own right hamstring Sept. 10. Turner had been hot before his injury, batting .391 with two homers and two doubles over his previous six games.

Arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, Turner entered the day with a .273 average and .695 OPS in 201 plate appearances. The Mets have derived much of Turner's value from his defensive versatility; he has played at five positions this season, appearing in at least a dozen games apiece at all four infield spots.
