Story (elbow) 'getting really close' to return
Rockies shortstop Trevor Story was expected to be activated from the injured list on Tuesday, but he was not in the starting lineup against the Marlins. The Rockies are hoping Story can be activated on Wednesday.
According to Rockies manager Bud Black, Story needed another day of baseball activities. During the activities, Story threw for the first time since going on the IL because of right elbow tightness.
“He is getting really close. Closer than you think,” Black said.
Story is hitting .255 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. Once he is activated, Story is expected to play every day and not be given a day off to rest the elbow.
“He is built to play every day and he’ll play for sure, but we’ll keep an eye on him like we do all of our players,” Black said. “Whether we ease him back in or not, that will pretty much be a daily conversation with Trevor about how he is feeling. I know Trevor wants to play every day. If he feels his arm is ready for that, that’s what will happen.”
