Trevor Bauer's administrative leave extended
MIAMI -- Major League Baseball will extend Trevor Bauer's paid administrative leave for an additional seven days, meaning that he will not be eligible to return to the field until at least July 16.
The extension -- which goes into effect on Friday -- was made in agreement with the Players Association and follows an initial seven-day leave period that began last Friday.
Bauer is under investigation following sexual assault claims from a woman who alleges that the pitcher got physical with her during recent encounters. The Pasadena (Calif.) Police Department has opened a criminal investigation, and his accuser was granted a temporary ex parte restraining order. Bauer was granted a formal hearing, set for July 23, to dispute the restraining order.
Bauer’s agents, Jon Fetterolf and Rachel Luba, released a statement in response to the extension of the administrative leave:
“We continue to refute [the woman’s] allegations in the strongest possible terms and Mr. Bauer vehemently denies her account of their two meetings. Again, administrative leave is neither a disciplinary action nor does it in any way reflect a finding in the league’s investigation.”
Under the joint domestic policy agreed upon by MLB and the MLB Players Association, the Commissioner’s Office can ask for the Players Association’s consent to extending the administrative leave.
