Less than a week after selecting Travis Bazzana with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the Guardians agreed to an $8.95 million deal (the slot value for the No. 1 overall pick was $10,570,600) with the 21-year-old, a source told MLB.com's Jim Callis. The club has not confirmed.
The Oregon State second baseman was the first No. 1 pick in Cleveland's franchise history and the first Australian-born player to be selected No. 1 overall.
The Australian native is a five-tool player and arguably the most talented prospect in this year's Draft, befitting his status as MLB.com’s No. 1 Draft prospect.
Rated as best pure hitter in the Draft, Bazzana batted .407/.568/.911 and launched a school-record 28 homers.
