Chief baseball development officer Reagins elected as At-Large Director of Little League

November 8th, 2024

MLB chief baseball development officer Tony Reagins was elected as one of two new At-Large Directors on the Little League International Board of Directors during its annual meeting in Williamsport, Pa., on Friday.

Reagins, who joined the Commissioner’s Office in March 2015, is responsible for overseeing the sport’s growth at the youth and amateur levels, both domestically and internationally, in his role as MLB’s chief baseball development officer.

Under his leadership, Reagins’ department places an emphasis on strengthening participation in baseball and softball at the grassroots and the development stages. The continued growth of the “PLAY BALL” initiative, which launched in June 2015 and now includes multilateral partnerships with USA Baseball, USA Softball, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Little League, is imperative to those efforts.

Reagins is also responsible for leading the expansion of the “Breakthrough Series” amateur development camps and overseeing additional programs such as Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, MLB Youth, the Hank Aaron Invitational, Elite Development Invitational, DREAM Series and the Andre Dawson Classic.

Reagins held several roles with the Angels prior to joining the Commissioner’s Office, including a stint as the club’s general manager, becoming the fifth black GM in baseball history in the process.

Little League Sweden District 1 Administrator Kristian Palvia was also elected to the board as an At-Large Director on Friday, while four others were named to the board as the newest Region Field Directors: Vojtěch Albrecht (Europe and Africa Region -- Czechia), Urny Floran (Latin America Region -- Curaçao District 1), Derek Lisby (Central Region -- Indiana District 7), and Pam Stanley (Southwest Region -- New Mexico District 9).

Additionally, the board announced Friday that National Baseball Hall of Famer Mike Mussina and current New York Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury are set to conclude their service as At-Large Directors.

“The expertise and input of our board of directors performs a pivotal role in navigating the past, present and future courses of the Little League journey," Steven P. Johnson, the chairman of the Little League International Board of Directors, said in a statement. "So we are deeply grateful for the wisdom, inspiration, and insight of Mike and Chris during the past 20 years and look forward to their continued support as active board alumni.

“We are also excited to have Tony Reagins join our board and Kristian Palvia continue his service in this new role, and we are confident that their future contributions will craft many exciting new chapters in the Little League story.”
