Edman's all-out effort wins Play of the Week
September 7th, 2021
A week after capturing National League Player of the Week honors, Cardinals second baseman Tommy Edman won the Play of the Week Award for the first time on Tuesday.
Despite the Cardinals being down eight runs to the Reds in the bottom of the second inning at Great American Ball Park last Wednesday, Edman went all-out for the final out of the frame.
The second baseman raced to foul territory to make the running catch on Tyler Stephenson's popup while tumbling over the tarp and into the netting.
Edman, who leads the team in doubles (37), runs (77) and stolen bases (23), also homered off Reds starter Sonny Gray to lead off the second game of the twin bill.
