Davis' talents came together in Connecticut

Rajai Davis, OF, Tigers
Hometown: Norwich, Conn.

Rajai Davis is a Connecticut boy through and through.

Born in Norwich, Davis was a three-sport athlete at New London High School before attending the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.

Davis was a standout early on, his uncle, Ulysses Clifton, told MLive.com earlier this year.

"I would throw him the ball and he would go crawl after it, and we would play all day," Clifton said. "I was throwing the ball to him, and he would just keep going after it, keep going after it, keep going after it. ... Other people have other talents. Rajai just happened to have what most athletes have, hand-eye coordination. It was easy with him."

It took Davis awhile to get stability in the Majors, however. He was a 38th-round pick by the Pirates in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, and he played for four other teams before signing his first career two-year deal with the Tigers this past offseason.

He resides in East Lyme, Conn.
